Pre op assessment what do I need?

Hi, I have my pre op assessment on Monday and was wondering what I need to wear. Is it OK to wear normal clothes or do I need to wear joggers or stretchy bottoms for the physio meet? Any pointers as to what actually happens would be appreciated.

Hi

When I had mine it was to check blood pressure, heart etc. also MRSA swabs and urine sample, and few questions about general health. Basically an assessment to make sure you are fit and well enough for an operation.

I wore normal clothes.

Good luck

Hi Fiona

i had my pre-op assessment about 5 weeks ago.

as with Barbara it was a series of health questions and various swabs and tests.

i also had a chat with the anaesthetist and an occupational therapist.

just wear something comfortable.

i also went to Joint School. If you get the chance go - it's very worthwhile. Both my wife and I found it very useful - lot's of practical advice of what to expect before and after the op.

Good luck

Kevin

Hi Fiona,

As others have mentioned just normal clothes. No physical exercises involved. During questions at end of the pre op enquire more about required physio post op and if there is access to a hydro pool as from my experience I've had very little and obtained more info from this great forum.

Thanks Barbara, just had a panic as to what to expect. X

Hi Kevin.

Joint school sounds interesting, where about was that? I don't think they have that here but I will certainly go if offered. Thanks for the advice x

Hi Kevin

I will keep that in mind although we are pretty rural here and might not have a hydro pool nearby - plenty muddy puddles but maybe not the same effect. I agree with you on the forum, the comments and advice on here are excellent. Thank you x

Hi Fiona

i'm in Sheffield, but I know that other areas have joint school.

At the one we went to there were x3 speakers - a ward sister from orthopaedics, a physio and an occupational therapist.

We were given exercise sheets, etc and told what to expect!

Good luck

Normal clothes OK for pre-op. But I would recommend loose trousers/

joggers for post op. My leg was really swollen, still is so I don't think any of my jeans would fit and its comfier in joggers!

I went for my pre op during the work day so just went in work clothes ie smart trousers and a nice top. As others have said mine consisted of blood pressure test, MRSA swabs, blood test, urine, ECG and general health questions. I didn't prepare anything to take with me but knew in my head the meds I was taking and the dosage.

Its pretty straightforward ward and nothing to be concerned about.

Good luck 😊

I wore normal clothes .

It was with a nurse , had to loosen trousers as she took a swab from the groin.

had 3 pre assess as they cancelled op !

Just wear your normal clothes.  I am usually in trousers so I wore them.  I had ECG, Lungs listened to, swabs in my mouth and nose.  Blood tests, had to take a urine sample with me, height, weight and BMI tested and an x-ray of my hips to see what size replacement I would need and a chat with the Nurse.  Also had to take a form with me which showed the height of my chairs, toilet and bed, so that they could assess what aids I would need when I got home.  Good luck with yours
