Pre Op Insomnia

I was wondering if anyone has dealt with this. For months now iv been really struggling to sleep. Some days im up until 5:30am orher days around 2am is earliest for me. Sometimes its from pure agony other days i just cant sleep.

Im going to see the Gp on tuesday at 8:20am....isnt that funny. Hoping to get some help

You have my sympathy.  I am due to see a consultant on Feb. 1, and already suffering, particularly as it is at 8:45 a.m., and my sleeping patterns are all over the place.  I am using Diazepam as a sleep aid, but it does not always do the job.  Previously, I was using Temazepam, which is a Class A drug.  Needed it as I was 24/7 caring for my mother for 7 years, and that started my insomnia as I needed to be alert all the time.

Oh dear.

Iv know idea why iv started being like this. i think it began getting worse after i found out i may need another op. Not to mention having to leave my job, go on the sick and so on haha.

Really hope i can get some help on tuesday.

I think something of this sort has come up on the site before.  If you take a look on Amazon, there are a number of CDs to help with stress, anxiety, insomnia, etc.  I have used them, myself, and am a qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist, although I did not ever put it into practice.

Take a look at them.  They may help, and certainly will not do any harm.  The effect it is to calm you and elevate you to a more comfortable and relaxed state.

I will have a look thanks. You never know, maybe it will help 😁 thank you

Hi Sarah:

I have  written to my daughter who has lost someone very dear to her recently, and she is really suffering, insomnia being one of many problems tht she is having.  I have directed her to the Amazon site, and she has ordered one on the basis that it will do more good than harm.  The tapes are specifically designed to aid relaxation and get you off to sleep.  Amazon delivers very rapidly, too.

I am truely sorry to hear that your daughter is suffering. I send my wishes to her

Thanks Sarah.  She is in a bad way, aand there is not too much I can do for her, other than to be there for her and guide her through the grieving process as best I can.  I have lost a child and my entire family, so I know about loss.

Im very sorry. Its always hard to lose someone close to you.

Is this anxiety about your op ( title is pre op)?  I got myself into a state before my op last Sept so much so was a gibbering drama queen.  My GP presribed valium to take the week before op....I am not a valium taker but this did help?  When is your op or is it also due to severe pain?

Good Luck on Tuesday.

alice

Well my dad said i could be subconciously worrying because i try not to think in bed tbh. I dont have a date yet because when i rang she said my op is very complex so they cant just slot me in but its sometime after Feb.

Sometimes its caused by severe pain in my hips, knees and shoulders and other times its not.

Oh Sarah....This is very hard for you but I hope your Doctor on Tuesday will give you something to take to help you relax...that might help any pain too.  Short term use of these tablets is a good thing and not bad.  Relaxation techniques are helpful but not on their own..take all the help you are offered.  None of us react in the same way so what is helpful to one of us doesn't always help another. Let us know how you are doing and check 'Rocketman's' new web page.  Click on his details as I can't rememebr it without looking.

Alice

Iv been on his page a few times. Its fab.

What type of relaxation things?

I use melatonin it's fab. I only take a quarter of a tablet, buy it of amazon

Im not sure id feel comfortable buying meds off the internet

Well Honeybun...I am not a great believer in alternative medicine but know people who are and find comfort from it..so don't want to pooh pooh it. I do know that deep deep breathing does help..but when we get into such a state of anxiety, as I was, you got to the stage where going to bed was daunting rather than the haven it should be.  Let us hope your GP, ,iike mine will be undertanding.  If you were to read back my posts from pre Sept you would see what a stae I was in and now find myself in the position of reassuring new hippies like you.  I had contant support as you will and that on its own helps.

Keep in touch..I tried to look at Rocketman's web page again but cant get it for some reason.

Ah i see. Im hoping the GP helps because insomnia, anxiety and depression are setting their evil ways into my mind and that makes things worse.
