I am 7 days post op after a lap chole.Around day 2 developed a large bruise beneath upper port, this feels quite firm and is about the size of a small boiled egg. Went back to hospital, seen by a surgeon, (not mine however)who feels it is caused by bleeding under the rectus sheath, to let it settle and observe for signs of infection. Just wondered if anyone else experienced this problem?
i had to google a lap.chole. can you post in laymans terms please. thanks. i dont know what retus sheath is. sorry .....
I had bad bruising on my hand after having my gallbladder out in April last year.
District Nurse said it would settle down which it did.
I think it was where they injected me with something.

Hi,
the rectus sheath is just under the skin in the abdomen, I think the blood has oozed just under the skin on the upper port site, usually at least 4 sites for removal of gall bladder via a camera(lap.chole), just that it is quite tender in that area. Thanks for your interest, just worried a bit.
Thanks for your reply, my large bruise is on my abdomen under the upper port of my gall bladder removal, its quite tender but doesnt seem as sore today, day 8. thanks again
