I had Cataract surgery done 2 months ago for both eyes. Before the surgery, I was using progressive Varilux lenses which are pretty expensive $300+ with my insurance contributing almost $200. I don't need glasses to see far and my reading numbers are gone by half. I can always use over the counter glasses for reading. But, I use glasses for watching TV while working on Laptop. What are the different types of progressive lenses?. Have anyone switched from Varilux to other progressive lenses? Do I need Varilux after my numbers have gone down so much (far: do not need glasses, near has gone down by 50%).? Thanks in advance.
It would be helpful for people to give advice if you tell them the actual numbers ![]()
Hi
I guess it will vary from person to person, and I rarely use glasses myself, I have never worn a pair of progressive glasses.
But with the iols have now, your eyes can no longer accommodate at all, that means that you can use pretty much any pair of glasses you feel comfortable with.
You can not damage your eyes or iols with “wrong” glasses, so if you find glasses that you feel works for you, it will be safe to use them.
Here in Denmark we have over the counter bifocal glasses as well, that are very cheap, I assume you can find these where you live as well.
And if you can find a pair of glasses that works for you, either standard glass or bifocal glass, it is safe to use them, you really can´t go wrong, if it feels right to you.
I can’t really answer your questions as I don’t know what type of progressives I have, but I presume they are the same as before surgery. I also do not need glasses for distance. I did get a new pair of full progressives and also office progressives. For the most part, I use the office progressives around the house and the full progressives when I am out and about. I did try readers at first but didn’t like the constant on/off so I’m happy to have my progressives.
