Hi Victoria
I have not been able to keep up with this forum of late due to PTSD, but when i read your post I felt I needed to reply.
You are obviously new to the term Post Traumatic Stress disorder and i very much share your mental state at the moment.
Severe anxiety and depression is often part of this illness, and it can make you very unwell. What caused it in your case Victoria? Some patients do not want to talk about it as they re-live their terrible experiences.
I note that you were taking Prozac but it appears that you are not prescribed other medication at this time. The reality being that some patients do not want to take any meds. i am not one of those people.
It's usally a trial and error situation and it can take a while to sort out. I thank the Lord for most of these drugs as I would be probably dead by now. The suffering can be massive and i don't understand how others cope without meds.
How is your sleep? From my experience, sleep is essential for PTSD patients. i still get night terrors but the drugs I take largely prevent insomnia. in fact I'm prescribed three different psychiatric medicine. it's a very hefty doses but i'd rather this than no meds. Certainly, I'm not anti-drugs and it has taken much time to sort out the medicine and dosage..
Amongst other drugs, I take Surmontil 200mg each night. It has been a real blessing for me and gives me enormous aid for insomnia, anxiety and depression.
I've have received various therapies too, including EMDR. Personally, I would never have this treatment again but some other patients claim that it's been great for them. i think that you need to talk with your doctor and to mention how bad your anxiety is. Perhaps he/she will recomment some kind of therapy to help you.
I can well understand the battle you face each day, You need some relief in order to help you move on. You should not have to carry all this burden on your own Victoria.
I hope that this post helps in some way, and for you to know that help is available for your suffering.
God Bless
John
