Pulpetation triggered reliably

Hi, is it drug allergy?

I am a 55 old man on Amlodipine 5g for the last two years for familial hypertension with type 2 diabetes.

To lower my BP I was given an ACE inhibitors that caused me to black out. So moved to Amlodipine 5g and that for a long time kept things at 135/80.

Since early August 2025 I started to have accelerated BPM when sitting, bending and lying down, going upstairs etc. I am on a healthy diet and exercise for years due to my background risks

Took myself to A&E and had all the blood works done and ecg, all came back normal. 24h ECG came normal. My cardiologist is sending me for a heart CT just to make sure I didn’t pick up some virus in the area. The only thing left is maybe side effects of longish use of Amlodipine.

Initially when I got the palpitations it was accompanied by very abnormal BP of 180/100. These waves of palpitations comes randomly and can send me up to 110-120 at rest. Due to these odd spikes in BP, my GP upped the Amlodipine to 10mg + a 2.5mg of ACE inhibitors (Ramipril).

It is now three weeks since upping the Amlodipine, my BP is 125/77 but I get more palpitations over longer period and even missing heart beats. I have no other symptoms otherwise. Previously resting stopped the palpitations but now it’s just gone on and on, the only way to get it to relax is vagal nerve manipulation/deep breathing.

Does anyone else has this very fast heart with beats skips like Arrithmia ?

It is absolutely horrendous.

One common side effect of blood pressure medications, including Amlodipine, is heart palpitations. I had similar problem years ago and was able to control it with Bystolic, a beta blocker. Bystolic lowers heart beat as well as pressure. After a while, with weight loss and exercises and better diet, I weaned myself of Bystolic.
