Put salicylic acid on my plantar wart and now it is white and REALLY hurts. What is happening?

Here is a photo - the brown area is where I dabbed the salicylic acid yesterday night. Should I keep going with the treatment or leave it alone? it really hurts and it is difficult to walk. Thanks!
