I suffer from panic disorder and general anxiety. I am also a emetephobic. I suffer from IBS and GERD. Plus I have dysfunction of the belch reflex which means I can’t burp. Through out the day I have these weird gagging feelings and it causes me to panic because I’m scared to puke. I don’t physically gag but I have a feeling too. It also kinda feels like when your stomach drops and you have the gag in the back of your throat. Idk how else to explain it. It is hard to try to explain. If anyone suffers from this let me know. I want to know if it’s anxiety related which I’d imagine it is. I’ve had for a couple months now on and off. Also if you do suffer from it, are there any tricks? I chew gum to ease mine.
Hey, I had the same feeling starting a couple days ago. I too suffer from anxiety and panic. I also have heartburn and reflux really badly. I had the gagging feeling (but not actually gagging) and it scared me so bad. I took a zantac and it seemed to help, but I still get that feeling occasionally. So yeah, probably anxiety related. Anxiety causes the digestive system to not function properly, hence heartburn and such. So my guess is anxiety causes that sensation in the throat. Wish I could give you some tips but I just started getting this. Just know you're not alone!
Thank god im not alone! Thank you so much and I hope you get well too.
Late to the thread but I swear I could have been the OP. When my anxiety is not under control stupid things make me retch without warning...a hair in the sink, a crumb in a mans beard...or a random thought. When I’m on my meds this NEVER happens. Definitely anxiety related.
