Hey! Thank you for reading. I am a 21 year old female. For about 24 hours now ive had this pain in my lower right leg. I cant really pinpoint it, if you asked me I would just point generally to my knee/calf region. It feels VERY sharp and kinda radiates like a spider web. It comes every 30 seconds to every minute. Its so bad it wakes me up at night. I tried taking aleve and nothing has helped. I havent done anything strenuous lately. I cant figure out what this could be and its worrying me because ive never felt a pain that felt quite like this before. Its also a little harder and feels weaker than my other leg. Has anyone experienced this? Do you think its me over reacting and being anxious or could it be something serious?
Is your calf swollen? Have you been taking any hormonal tablets?
would have it checked out in case you have a deep vein thrombosis.
You're not overreacting. definitely have it checked out by your doctor. That is the only way you'll know what is causing this pain and nobody on this site can tell you if it's serious or not.
is there swelling, warm to touch?
have it checked out as soon as possible.
Yeah I would have it checked out just to be sure!
Good.
Hey everyone. Thanks for the response. I'm currently at the doctor and he's testing me for a blood clot. Thanks again.
You are welcome. These things should always be checked out as an urgency. Let us know how you do.
So it turns out that it was a blood clot. It was found by ultrasound. He prescribed me a drug called heparin (not sure the spelling) it's a shot. I'm getting a MRI later today I might be hospitalized depending on if he drug works and how large the clot is.
It's crazy to me that all this is happening because I'm 21 years old and I'm active. Don't ever think that it couldn't happen to you people!
Don't worry Cait . Good job you got it checked. The heparin will thin your blood then the drs will prescribe an anti coagulant for you. There are several now one is called warfarin then there are newer ones called NOA, new anti coagulation drugs. You will be on it for about six months and need blood checks so they can dose you up for arfarin.
These things happen at any age. It is a shock but the thing is that you acted promptly and saw a dr who sounds on the ball.
If you have been on any hormonal tablets for any reason the dr will advise dscontinuation of these .
Just put your trust in the doctors now . They have everything under control so need to worry. You will need to wear a white stocking.
This will ease your leg.
Take advantage of the rest inhospital. Let us know how u do. xxx
when your INR gets to safe
INR
This stands for internal normalisation ratio and is a test to check the thikness.thinness of your blood and this helps the anti coagulation clinic know how much anti coagulant drug to advise you to take.
Just focus on getting better now and try not to worry about things that do not matter.
If you smoke the drs may advise you to stop. Just so you can be prepared and it will not come as a shock. You are in good hands I can tell from the prompt and efficient way the drs have responded. Best xxj
