I'm waiting to be seen at my local hospital's pain clinic. Yet the waiting list is at present 26 weeks. I haven't been waiting half of that yet. My GP has refused to review my pain relief saying that I can wait until I'm seen at clinic. I'm in absolute agony and am really not sure what to do next.
hi arwen, so sorry to hear that. Totally understand your frustration when you feel so poorly. I have been on a mixture of Paracetamol & Codine before bed and Ibuprofen during day doesn't do much. The main thing now they diagnosed hoping the tablet for nighttime - muscle relaxant keeps me having a deeper sleep! My GP left my consultant to make the main decision - hope you find a forward soon. Its been nearly that time for me as its taken a while for my diagnosis...better they get it right....😞 xx
Arwen, where exactly are you experiencing this pain, and what type of pain is it - dull - nagging or sharp? Does it only occur when you move, lift, walk, rest - any information you can give me might enable me to assess what can be done as a pro-temp measure.
Hi Arwen
Have you been diagnosed with Fribromyalgia?
I do feel for you and understand the waiting can be a stressful time and this can also make you feel worse than ever just waiting. Your GP needs to be supportive but then again many GP's do not have the knowledge of Fibromyalgia, hence the reason they don't offer the help and support we all need.
You are not alone ont this forum we are all here for you and understand your pains. Please keep us posted with your findings.
In the mean-time you should not stress yourself out and take one day at a time. What have you tried up until now? Share with us your experience and all we can do is advice and share your pain with you. As there is always someone on this forum that can recommend and share their experiences with you.
Hope you find relief soon. Take care and gentle hugs to you.
Not a very helpful GP, Arwen..... how distressing. I don't understand that though because mine (pain clinic), haven't discussed meds with me... just about managing my sleep pattern and walking for a few minutes, at a time. Ultimately it's your GP who prescribes any meds and adjustments to them. Maybe you should try and go back tell them that you are not coping with current meds.... even if they prescribe something on a temporary basis until you PC appt.
Wishing you well, Arwen
Angie
Hi Arwen1972
Im so sorry to hear that you have such a pathetic doctor, who doesn't have a clue, about the terrible pain we suffer much pain we suffer. I have horrendous pain following a road traffic accident some years ago I have to take opiates but I was sent to the pain clinic recently and they put me on a drug called gapabentin which your doctor could easily prescribe. I would keep bothering him/ her till they do something about it, cause believe me when I say the more upfront you are with these people the sooner they will do something. I hate to think off you suffering because pain wares you down
hope you get sorted out soon
Hi Archemedes and thank you for answering me. The pain is everywhere. I think my hair is the only part of my body that doesn't hurt right now. I'm typing this through tears. I can't move without wanting to scream. It is sharp, hot and angry. Does that make sense?
Hi Bee. Yes I have, by a Rheumatologist.
Thank you so much.x
Hi Mary. I'm on the maximum dosage of Gabapentin already.x
It certainly does make sense and I sympathise with you.
Two things you might try, the first is to phone your GP and say that the pain is now getting out of control, and implore him/her to immediately prescribe some strong pain relief such as 30/500 Cocodamol.
The second thing you could try is to directly contact your hospital's pain management clinic, explain the situation and ask for some immediate relief.
I must say that I would not be at all happy with the present situation as it has clearly not taken into account your present situation.
Good luck.
I'm already on 30/500 and tramadol 100mg s/r twice a day as well as gabapentin. I cannot take NSAIDS because they trigger my asthma. I am at the end of my rope.x
Hi Arwen1972
Sorry so much for that idea then. As I said before I'm on opiates called OxyContin and oxynorm.
I just moved to a different area, and just managed to meet a very understanding Doctor. I have a very disabled child so he looked at me and said you need something that will work for you so your able to look after you're wee son. I know there's discussion that they are bad but that goes for any drug you abuse I'm now on it for seven years,Quite honestly I couldn't get out off bed without them. Would you ever think about trying opiates saying your on the max doseage off gapabentin x
