Upped dose from 20mg to 30mg of citalopram . Only been 1 week but feeling awful and spaced out , tingly , morning nausea and stomach gurgling non stop , going through seperation , debts , and i have m.s , i did level out after three or four months but last week i crashed mentally so gp agreed to increase , ive managed a week on the increase , do i persevere ? Feeling down and super anxious , thanks in advance , gaz
Hi Gaz
I would persevere as these side effects will definitely pass. I found it hard upping from 20 to 30 and had everything you describe. Even went to hospital because my stomach was so bad. Nothing found consultant felt is was due to depression and side effects of meds. It was a lot easier from 30 to 40 which is weird. I'm now patiently waiting for 40 to kick in. Hang in there Gaz it will get better I promise you. With regards to your debts don't stress out offer each company a small amount even if it's a fiver a month they can't do anything to you if your paying a token amount. Lastly if you get retching dab a small bit of salt on the tip of your tongue. . It works instantly!

Thankyou Lorraine , scary isn't it ? I lost my job on 1st September due to my m.s waiting for spinal injections , and wife ended an 18yr marriage . Staying with family at moment , in process of dealing with debts with an advisor so trying hard to survive each day . I keep being told that anybody would be in a mess without the m.s , praying it gets better
Hi Gaz
Yes it is a really scary illness. I last worked in April and started citalopram in June. I think our bodies close shop when we are taking on too much stress and lets us know by almost closing down our brains! It is a long road Gaz but there is so much evidence out there to convince me that we will get better. I cannot imagine how traumatic it was for you separating with your wife after so many years together and to have ms on top. That demonstrates your strength which you now need to use on yourself to get through this illness.
It must be hard living with family when sometimes all you want is to be left alone! I know as I had to move in with my daughter and grandchild when I lost my flat. It doesn't matter how much you love them it's just about not having any peace when you need it!!
Keep fighting Gaz. . You will get there xxx
20 to 30 was TERRIBLE, But very worth it
It does take time to kick in, is it your first time on meds , separation does cause depression especially after so long, as for your debts why not apply ESA until u are fit enough to work again, citalprom does magic in the end, good luck.
Why did you up the dose? I would go back to 20...no PILL is going to fix us totally. But if a pill makes me worse...I have to lessen it or STOP it.
I don't think by upping a dose...my life will change...its my thinking, behaviors, eating habits, sleeping habits and BAD habits that have to change.
In addition to working on those things..I take 20mg of citalopram...what i notice with this drug..is it makes me more patient....and helps me to "pause" before reacting. 20 is fine with me...I don't really feel different or any side effects (except for the 1st week I started it).
I told my Dr. if the symptoms didn't pass soon I would STOP the drug. The symptoms passed in a week. I feel nothing when I take the pill..and you shouldn't either..I think your taking too much and putting too much faith in the pill solving our problems.
Other things about us need to be worked on...like I said above.
Hey Gary, I had the upset stomach and feeling sick it passed after couple of weeks. Just have a bit of insomnia and headaches now. Just takes time x
