Recent Diagnosis - Looking for someone to answer some questions please

Hi,

So I was very recently diagnosed with genital herpes, so recently I am still in my first outbreak. My doctor was lovely but I wanted to ask people who have had the virus longer to answer some questions as my doctor explained she could not answer them as it’s all relative.

  1. I was just wondering how long people’s first outbreaks were? The pain is excruciating and I was wondering how long this might last.

  2. How often do people have outbreaks? Or has anyone experienced very little after their first?

  3. I have anesthetic gel but the pain is still very apparent, is there anything anyone can recommend for making things like sleeping and peeing without feeling like the fiery gates of ■■■■ reside in your labia easier?

I feel very isolated right now as the stigma around the virus means I don’t feel comfortable confiding in anyone just yet, I just want to get through this first outbreak then go from there.

Thank you for your time

Sorry you’re going through this :frowning:

My first outbreak was about 3 weeks in total but it wasn’t the same pain throughout, the initial agony pain lasted about a week. Then it was more discomfort as the sores healed and then I had a lot of extreme itching.

I would say I get 2 outbreaks a year now but they are nothing like the first one and haven’t needed any medication or treatment as they are so mild and don’t last more than a few days.

Pee in the shower or bath, my husband thought I was nuts having a shower every time I needed to per but the water eases the pain and it’s so worth the relief!
Dry the area with a hairdryer and try to be naked as often as possible to keep the sores dry.

I also self medicated with wine…obviously depends on your age etc and doctors wouldn’t recommend it BUT when you’re in so much pain it did help me sleep at least!

Feel free to ask any more questions, it really is horrible you have my sympathy but it will clear and you’ll soon forget you even have it xx
