I recently got my test results for herpes and it came back positive for hsv-1 and 2.
Hsv-1 value 29.8
Hsv-2 value 11.2
I know there is no way of telling when I got the infection but is the higher indexes meaning I've had herpes for some time? I know I've had hsv-1 since a child. I'm just trying to narrow if I've had hsv-2 for some time or recent exposure
what type igg or igm?
When I asked them if it was igg or igm, they replied what do I mean . Would this information be on my test results page

Look at your paperwork. Disregard igm as this is mot reliable. Ur igg is what u have or don't have.

And does the index number tell me an estimate if I had the the infection for some time or just got it

No it was blood test
HerpeSelect is a brand of blood test, and different test kits use different reference ranges to determine results, so I was wondering if you know. Do your results state the reference range? If so, what's the range for positive? And does it say "IgG".
Yes it says igg and hsv 1 is out of range 29.80
Hsv 2 is out of range 11.60
In range is blank and the reference for both is <.90
Ah, okay. So the reference range tells me that this is a HerpeSelect test kit, and your IgG (much more reliable than IgM) index values in both cases are high. Unfortunately that means you are positive for both, with a false positive for HSV2 being highly unlikely, since that would usually involve a much lower positive of around 3 and below, coupled with high HSV1. Your index value is over 10. At the time of testing, since you were already highly positive, that means both are established infections, not very recent. But in herpes testing that doesn't mean much, just that you've had both for over 3 months, so could be months or years. There is no way to narrow it further, unfortunately.
I know there is not a way to narrow it down...i know for a fact I had hsv-1 when I was around 13 or so because I had a cold sore and that value is high. So we could say hsv-2 I've had for a few years since the number is high if we are basing this on the hsv-1 number index?
It's really difficult to say and the two tests are not really comparable. HSV1 always seems to score much higher than HSV2 for some reason. Guess the odds are that you've had it for a few years, but nobody can tell you for sure.
