BPH diagnosticado recentemente e Tamsulosina

Hi Ken, I am 80 but not willing to give anything up but I would settle for retro ejac. Every thing works and now I only self cat before bedtime so I sleep all night. My problem is UTI's. I get recurring UTI 3 days after ceasing antibiotics. My urine is cleared by antibiotics but turns cloudy again and smells just 3 days later. I am just starting another course of A/B today. My main problem is infection and my insertion method is meticulously clean so I don't know why. Maybe it is to do with urosepsis, which I had last September and was lucky to survive. Anyway, I will see how these new A/Bs perform and come back in June. Thank you for your response. Best, Chris.

Hey Chris

I had Sepsis in 2014 so I know what you mean. But I did not get it from a UTI Yes almost died. By the time I went to the hospital it was all in my blood steam. I was in the hospital for 6 days and then came home with a port in my arm Had to have IV antibiotics for 12 days

I forgot to ask before have they checked you for a stricture. A few years ago my Urologist found one when I had that ordeal. They could not get a catheter in me. It has been under control but 2 years ago I had UTI's for 6 month's. I was on so many antibiotic

Why I'm asking this is that we found out that I was getting the UTI's from the back up of urine. The stricture would help with the urine going back in to the bladder.

Never give up and do what you have to do. Try this at night. Take a hot bath or a shower before bed. That may help you pee so you don't have to cath

Take care....Ken

Chris it was me who had the Turp...Jay was asking about tamsulosin .

I had TURP two years ago and I am now 66 years of age .

Long story short is I thought it was a failure as I had to self chath for around two months after the operation .

However slowly but surely I began to pee naturally and now I have stopped self catheterisation completely . My bladder which at one point held over 2 litres before the operation , feels about 80% better and I can sleep 8 hours of a night and pee around 6 to 8 times every 24 hours without urgency...depending on how much I drink and depending on my diet in those 24 hours...I eat a lots of veg and fruit etc.. .

Im sure you have heard negative stories as many write on here about them for reassurance , guidance or just through sheer frustration but the many successful ones go quietly on with their lives and do not look back.

Anyway I consider mine was a success and I am glad I had it. I have some RE but my sex life is good and that (RE) also appears to be improving even after two whole years. The human body is amazing at healing where it is able . I look upon some RE as a deal I was willing to trade for and I would do it again .

My brother who lives in Australia also had TURP around 15 years ago and is fine. He spoke about RE but is also happy with his outcome.

I am trying to be as objective about TURP as I can and I have no axe to grind. There are some nay sayers and quackery spoken about many things medical not just TURP... and that is their prerogative but sometimes it becomes tiresome listening to the same ones all the time .

I am happy to answer any questions about my personal story and anything I might know from my experiences with my MRI scans and self catheterisation etc. Also I elected not to have biopsies of my prostate before the TURP operation and I am happy I did not have any .. Geoff (UK)

Geoff and Ken, thank you for your responses, so now I will cath in the morning as well as at night so residual urine isn't there for 24 hours, which may be the cause of infection. If need be, I will cath at 5pm as well but first I must experiment further because I really do not want surgery at my age. My residual is usually 100 m, sometimes more sometimes less but I don't think that matters.

I have a few days of A/B to do and then I'll see how things pan out.

Best, Chris.
