Hey guys!
So, today after going to see the GP I’ve been prescribed Sertraline 50mg. I’ve been told to take 25mg (half a tablet) for two weeks until my review date. I’m currently laying in bed trying to force myself to just take the half of the damn tablet but obviously with me having horrendous anxiety I’ve been playing doctor google and reading some horror stories.
Any chance you guys can share your positive Sertraline stories with me?😊Thanks, Belle💖
Hi Belle,
I am exactly the same as you and made a post looking for positive stories about sertraline and propranolol as im terrified of taking tablets.
Ive gone from 80mg Propranolol down to half of a 10mg tablet because I get that anxious and panic about it.
Im in the same boat with the Sertraline, I keep putting it off and putting it off, I've seen 3 different GPs to get different answers from them as like you I googled it and only seen the worse.
Im still yet to take it myself as I started my propranolol this week my GP said do a week of that and then on Monday I have to start taking my Sertraline, Im already having panic attacks about taking it, but my GP knows how much I panic and has called me everyday this week just for reassurance and has said she will do the same next week once I start the Sertraline. The GP I am seeing also takes Sertraline and was very honest with me about her experience, she said you will read a lot of horror stories as people panic and it makes you think its worse than it is but if you take away the panic sort of side effect you're really not let with any side effects. She said her side effects lasted 6 days, it made her a little sleepy and when she first got up in the morning it was like she stood up to quickly and felt a little dizzy for a few minutes and that was all she had, she would take those side effects everyday if it meant she felt better now how she does rather than how she felt before it but it just takes a while for the medication to get in your system and even everything out in your body.
I know this is a bit long winded and I haven't taken the medication myself but I just wanted to reassure you that you aren't the only one who is anxious and panicking about taking them and share a bit of a positive story even though it isn't my own because I know when I first wrote my post all I wanted was a reply and a bit of reassurance.
Hope you get everything sorted and I am sure that they will work out for.
Ill be taking my first one on Monday so will let you know and come back and see how you're doing.
xx
Belle, I started taking sertraline on Tuesday. I take it in a morning after breakfast. I haven’t noticed any side effects upto now. I also took sertraline a few years ago for a long period of time and felt a whole lot better. It’s just time. We need to believe we will get through these bad times but it takes time. Go and get a glass of water and take what your GP has prescribed. And keep telling yourself this will help me. Not negatives about side effects that you may not even get xx
Hello lovey,
I was taking propranolol 80mg modified release last year for only a week and it made me feel super light headed so I then went down to 10mg standard tablet and it made me feel better when I had panic attacks or bad anxiety but I haven’t taken any for a while now.
I bit the bullet and took the Sertraline 25mg this morning and so far so good apart from a little bit of tummy ache!
But I generally feel a lot better and I’m so happy with myself for going for it and taking it, good luck for Monday, I’m sure you’ll feel a lot better for it xx
Thank you so much for your kind advice, I took it this morning and I’m already feeling a lot less anxious than before!
I’ve got a little bit of stomach ache but that seems to be all at the minute so fingers crossed! Are you in the U.K.? Belle xx
I found the first day ok, they it seemed to build up for about a week, I felt a but on edge and more anxious, also didn't sleep very well, things then improved side effect wise. It's going to help you though so be patient. X
That’s reassuring, I hope it works so fingers crossed! How long have you been taking it for?x
I was on 25mg for just over 2 weeks and been on 50mg for 4 weeks, I must admit, it was hard to start with, I'm not telling you this to scare you as many people are fine, but just to let you know that it can also be normal to feel a bit rubbish too, to he be assured that it would all pass, the side effects came back slightly too when I upped to 50mg but passed once again. Xx
Hi Belle,
Ive been on Sertraline for almost 2years and am on 200mg. I have been on Citalopram and Venlafaxine before and I can truthfully say Sertraline has been the best medication I’ve had for severe anxiety disorder, ptsd and GAD.
You can find horror stories about every medication ( I have finally managed to stop googling everything for this reason lol ) so don’t take notice of what you’ve read and trust your GP. You are starting on a low dose so your body can get use to it so if you had any side effects they’ll be mild and usually pass after a few days. All I felt was a bit more tired than usual for a few days and again when my doses were increased.
Good luck and take that tablet, the first one is always the hardest xxxxxx
Hi belle. I started taking sertraline 3 days ago 25mg. I felt a bit sick the first day but nothing now. I was on citalipram a couple of years ago and the initial side effects were horrendous. I was so worried about taking sertraline but have been relieved I’ve had none of these effects this time.
Thankyou so much for the heads up! I hope they pass ASAP so I can start feeling a bit more like my old self, I hope you’re doing good too xx
Hello! Thank you very much for all of your advise, it’s really reassuring to hear from someone who has tried other types of medication and found that sertraline is the best one out there for you😊
I’m gonna try my best to keep myself from looking on google every time I feel a strange feeling whilst taking sertraline, it’s so easy to go to doctor google unfortunately!
I took my first one this morning so fingers crossed🤞🏼Thanks so much xx
Hello Alison!
I feel sick today and I’ve been grinding my teeth this evening which is a bit strange, did you feel like this at all?
How has your eating been by the way?
Thanks! Belle xx
I went on sertraline last year for about 3months I weaned my self off I was grinding my teeth trembling headaches galore the list goes on no sleep but they all do stop after a while..and now looking back I think they heighten your anxiety at 1st so all the side effects I thought were side effects I think it was anxiety symtoms because.. since stopping like 5months ago I still get the symtoms which I now no are anxiety..cause I take no medication what so ever...I just this k you've gotta go with the flow .. everything will be ok..I wouldn't take again though because I believe I can do this on my own gym eating rite meditation wringing things down.. I'm in a better place now.. then what I was b4 taking sert. I'm alot aware I understand anxiety more.. b4 I was clueless.. I've been on a journey
Belle - glad to hear you have started to take it. I’m sure we will both start to feel better soon. Yes I am in the UK are you ? X
Glad to hear you’re ok belle. Eating fine. To be honest not really noticing much side effects with these at all which is great.
Oh I’m really pleased to hear that Alison! Fingers crossed for you xx
Hello! Thank you for sharing your experience with me, I’m really pleased to hear that you’re managing your anxiety with a healthy lifestyle although I couldn’t unfortunately manage without some help for now..I’m glad you’re in a better place x
Fingers crossed lovey! Yeah I’m up north in West Yorkshire, you?x😊
