Recommend Automatic cars

Hi, I changed to an Automatic car a couple of years ago when I needed a bigger car to fit the mobility scooter in the boot (and kids bags!)

I would highly recommend an automatic due to reduced movement through the legs and spine.  It is also less complicated to drive an automatic because you don't have to remember when to use the clutch and for how long - good old Fibro Fog for you.

My car even has an automatic handbrake, so I don't have to work-out the combination of speed verses brakes when doing a hill start.  It's also good because the hand-brake switch is on the dashboard so no bending down at a twist to pull and then release it.

I would also recommend cars that the seat has you in a sitting up position (like a dining room chair) and that you slightly step up into.  Therefore when you get out you twist round and drop out.  Great when you've gone stiff during the journey.

The car I'm driving is a Citroen Grand 4 Picasso.

I have had an automatic for ten years, brilliant..

Yes I would agree with this. I first had an automatic because of arthritis in my knees and feet. Oh and hands, but since having FMS, and developing arthritis in my spine and shoulders, I would definitely struggle with a manual now. x

Totally agree with you juliebadger, I changed to an automatic a few years ago due to more shoulder pain with gears etc, best decision I made, and wish I had done it earlier! I drive a peugeot 3008 and she's fab!! :-) if anyone is thinking of doing it I would say Do it you will not regret it!
