Rectocele repair

I am looking into finding a doctor at UNC Urogynecology to have a Rectocele/ enterocele repair. I am a little nervous about pain and ability to have my sex life and bowel movements return to normal. Bowel movements are horrible and I feel nothing but a big numb void vaginally.

Any suggestions or anything????

donna what is UNC?

University of North Carolina

UNC is a teaching hospital in Chapel Hill, NC

Thanks donna, I didn't recognise it as a hospital in the U.K. Good luck I hope you get some responses.

Okay. Thanks

Not in U.K. I meant North Carolina

Sorry donna I didn't explain my last post very well. I did realise you weren't in the UK. Just wish I could have helped.

Thanks

Good luck with the search sorry Donna I'm in the UK as well take care x

Thank you

Hi, I'm in Florida. Had a recetele and cystecele in August. The doctor used ACell ( from pig bladder for mesh)

There were not any GynUrlogist near me. I used a female urologist that specialized in pelvic floor. No problem with the mesh so far.

I remember the early day very well, glad they are behind me. I did have to back for sling revision. Where the bladder sling was to tight and never emptied. But now it all works.

Good luck, I know it's miserable.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have an appointment this morning for my second opinion at UNC. I pray I can have this done by late summer! !!#

Hi Grace

Good to hear from you. I'm now 2+ weeks post Op had the same as you except my consultant used pigs 🐷 intestine! Sadly over here because it's not private healthcare can't shop around for specialist, luckily my gynaecologist was great. No post op appt for 3 months obviously unless I have a problem, glad to hear your healing well is it the same in the States,6 weeks off work but should be up to 3 months I'll go crazy if I'm stuck at home that long ! Bladder function settling down, but think I'll be on constipation meds for sometime. All the best in your continued recovery take care 😻X

Good luck,

With everything and stay in touch let me know how you get on 😻X

I just came back from my second opinion and you wouldn't believe I may not need surgery. I am referred to pelvic floor physical therapy. I was told the pain during my examinations is muscle spasms!!!!! The other doctor I initially saw wanted to rush straight to surgery!!!

I started to want a second opinion after he wanted all money for procedure up front. I had to remind him that these procedures are covered by insurance. He got nervous and said he wanted his money up front and then he would file and I could get my money from the insurance company 😡😡😡😡. Just weird. I pray these exercises work!!!!🙌👏👐

Hi Donna

That's great news, really happy for you good luck with your pelvic floor exercise program fingers crossed 🤞 this will do the trick. Sounds like your first surgeon was really dodgy thank god you had the presence of mind to get a second opinion well done 👍 take care stay in touch 😻X

I had surgery at UNC 8 weeks ago for enterocele, rectocele, vaginal repair and my surgeon was Sammantha Pullium and she is great.

Thanks. Keep you posted on my therapy.

How do you feel 8 weeks out. Can you have sex yet??? Any difference? ??
