I dried mine out and it went away quicker lol
Hi , I have very similar to what you have , I had 3 big episodes , seems to get closer , did skin biopsy that confirms it. Every time they put me on steriods coz I can’t stand the itch and the pain of the heat , the patches get bigger and bigger and connect like a map around my chest, back , neck , between my thighs, under arms , and even on my arms and legs too. Let me know what is your last approach be? I am misrable!
What treatment your dermatologist gave you? Please let me know, thank you
Yes almost every time I had it I had herpes virus before or with it
Several years ago I had it & suffered for a year, tried everything...even went to a tanning booth for several months (& I hate tannng booths, I was just desperate). I took something called EPX Body Immune & it was gone in 2 weeks, done. Recently it reoccured & I tried to get the EPX again but can't find it anywhere. I called EPX, they told me that they were trying to get more product from their formulary people in the UK. Then they suggested I just find & take the strongest dose of Allicin supplement I could find. EPX body immune has 200mg of Allicin....start from there, it couldn't hurt.
Doctors don't know what it is....it's not bacterial or viral, it's not a fungus...it's yet to be identified. I'm pretty sure I got mine from an article of clothing made abroad that I didn't wash first before I wore
Just thought I would include my case. I'm 47. I got PR for the first time 2 years ago in late winter / early spring. Had it again last year around the same time. It is now the end of Feb and here we go again. I am in the early stages of my third occurrence.
I moved back to Montana 6 years ago after living in the desert of AZ for 23 years. I suspect it is somehow triggered by the seasons and might stop if I return to the desert.
I experienced mild itching during the first two episodes and it seems to be the same this time. I have not done anything to treat it. Generally clears in a couple months.
My herald patch in past has been somewhere on my trunk. This time it is just left of the pubic area and I thought it was jock itch until the familiar rash started. (no wonder the antifungal cream wasn't working lol) I have never had jock itch and in the back of mind was considering it could be another herald.
I contracted genital herpes at age 20. I've read there may be a connection between the herpes virus and PR but my first PR wasn't until 25 years after contracting it. I am currently taking daily medication for the herpes to keep it dormant and have not had any breakouts since starting the medicine 6 months ago. In previous PR years I was not medicating, so that obviously has no effect.
Spending time in the sun will worsen your PR, it will burn and itch with excuciating pain the suns rays is not good for PR, I have had some bad experiences over the years, I was first diagnosed with PR when I was 18 and now I am 55 it can come and go just like that but I found that benadryl helps if you catch it before it gets really bad, I was told that it would go away evenually but it visits me on a yearly basic most of the time when I forget to cover up from the sun, so stay covered.
Hi, it's the same for me. I first got a herald spot on my upper back between my shoulder blades when i was 14. I went to my pediatrician and she said it was because of sweat drying on my skin and causing a rash. I live in south Florida, so sweating while being outside isnt that abnormal so i rolled with it. she told me to wash my back thoroughly every morning and night with Head and Shoulders shampoo. after about 6 weeks it and two other spot went away. About three years ago, i got a reoccurance on my lower back, right at my waist. I tried to do the same thing with the Head and Shoulders to no avail. I went to a doctor and he told me it was PR. He told me it would go away on its own. It never did. I have now a whole bunch of spots branching out around it up and down my spine from the bottom of my shoulder blades to the top of my hips. its in a straight line, sollowing my spine, almost like a pine tree. Its been three years and it hasnt gone away. sometimes there will only be the herald patch, and then ill get sick or stressed or it will get hot and muggy outside and then itll be back to the pine tree on my back. Im very pale and these spots are kinda dark so they are very noticable. im now 19 years old and these spots make it embarressing to go to the beach or wear sundresses and bikini tops and id honestly do just about anything to make them go away. I have scrubbed my back until its pretty much raw and that doesnt help much. Someone said to mostruize and thats what im gonna try next. the best way that ive gotten them to mostly fade away is laying in the sun but then i get sunburned because i dont tan, so i cant do that anymore. Hoping that mosturizing will do the trick!
I have yet to read the replys. But i also have this issue and i live in florida. I also my job is outdoors/i rent out kayaks to people. I just had a break out yesterday and I procured this disease here in florida. So from my exp. The sun doesn't help it. It actually causes break outs in my case. Also i tend to get very sick the next few days until the flare up starts to dissapear. Feels like i have a stomach bug at the moment. -also I use fungal foot cream mixed with vitamin e lotion 2 times a day and it typically vanishes within 5 days. ...wish there was more "knowledge" on this skin issue. They also you can't give it to another person but (before I say the next part, my doctor told me I have "pity roses" thats my nickname for it..i have been checked for any stds) my boyfriend also has this skin issue..so either we are two unlucky people for having a rare skin issue or in some cases it can be passed on...
This honestly makes me feel so much better. I'm 19 right now and I'm having my 2nd flare up within the last 3 years. Although, this time I thought it was a ringworm because my doctor said that it was impossible to get PR twice, some doctor, but it also doesn't itch. However, the first time I got it, it was EVERYWHERE and sooo itchy. Anyway, it's definitely a herald patch on the outside of my thigh, last time it was on my abdomen. I've never really been sick before I've gotten it, but I can admit to being extremely stressed during both instances, and feeling a tad weak and just exhausted. Also, I see everyone on here arguing if sun exposure is better or worse for it; it worked for me. I know this is bad, but I just went to a regular 'ole tanning bed for a couple of weeks. Hopefully this helps!
Hi,
I had it first when I was 17 , a really intense 90% coverage and full fatigue issue for total up to 4-6 months.
Since then (over these 13 years) I have had a familiar patch on my arm that did the same, nice a faded but there. It would come and go but always was a bit present. Over the past few years its been more on the tops of both my hands and more widespread and pimply not as a cluster or patch. It also flares up and goes down but always present. Now I got a new herald patch and that faded and found another herald in my groin and now im getting small patches all over and pimples.
Its reassuring that others also have the reoccurring and constantly there PR reminder. Just so we don't miss it too much I am hoping that it doesn't flare more. On wards with the self medicating and healing.
good luck!
Has anyone had any problems with drs and this rash?
Im pretty sure I have recurring PR
But my dr said i never had it in the first place since mine was painful the first time.
Was anyone elses painful
Hello! For anyone interested, this is what I've found. I'm not saying it's going to be relevant, but I thought I'd share, for what it's worth.
I've had PR twice full-on (first aged 27 and second aged 41; the second one from knees to neck for about 10 weeks). I've had 'brushes' with it many times. All of these times had something in common:
- High levels of stress, particularly emotional stress
- A certain amount of suppression of the truth of a situation, which I then, apparently, somatised
- Poor diet, and too much alcohol
- I also now know that I will get a rash before it appears because I will dream of something large and red/fiery that heads towards me in a dream: the first time, I was about to be swept up by a red double-decker bus; the second, I was inundated with lots of skydivers dressed in red. The biggest attack (when I was 41) was forewarned by a dream of raging bulls bursting out of the earth accompanied by lava. In a way, quite accurate, given it was an 'angry' rash and it burned like crazy.
When I get a dream, or get a herald patch, I do the following:
- I clean up my diet completely - no alcohol, low sugar, no NSAIDs, low caffeine. I drink lots of water.
- This is going to sound a bit woo-woo, but it helps a lot: I say to any emerging spots: "I see you. I know what you are. Go away." This appears to work quite well - though it could be a false correlation
- I check my stress levels
- I look at what I might not be addressing in my life emotionally - particularly anger, grief
- I check if I'm somehow going against what I'm meant to be doing. For example, the first bout of PR broke out a couple of days before I got married. My marriage was not good. A part of me knew that. I ignored it, but my body did not.
- I'm particularly vigilant during the 'danger zone' of late winter/early spring. Summer seems to help - but that might be because I love summer and so I am generally more upbeat. I hate winter; it hits when I've just about had enough of the cold
Them's my 2c. I hope they help someone.
My second bout was horribly painful - itching, burning, pain.
I really thought that I was the only one that had this too I am 17 and have had PR since I was 10 and it only flares up during the winter time and nearly goes away in the summer time it’s always been there but here in the last few months I have had a really rough flare up and it’s very annoying and make me self conscious
For 10 years I have been having PR, every year it keeps coming since I was 17 and now I’m 27. I’m tired of having it, recently I started looking for home remedies of how to get rid of it “ currently I’m doing the tea tree and coconut oil mixture also I try to stay in the sun 10-15mins a day”.
I read online about it that if u are pregnant and get PR u might face a miscarriage or have pre-mature babies
Hello all, I'm just after some advice on reoccurring PR. My husband has had it on and off now for roughly 6 months. The patches at their most severe will be all over his back like a big map, inner thighs, arms, and redness on his face. He was diagnosed via skin biopsy a few weeks ago. The PR will reduce and appear to go away but within 1-2 weeks it starts to come back again. He is constantly itching and at its worst it will be severely itching and like he is on fire.
These are my suggestions so far
Calamine lotion
Coconut oil for the dryness
Cotton clothing/bed sheets
He was given cortisone tablets but they affected his kidney function. He was also on blood pressure medication but went off it as they made him feel terrible and the rash seemed to hang around. His GP has advised there is no treatment for it and it should resolve on its own but it isn't.
He is so stressed out, not sleeping and it is affecting his day to day life. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Hi all,
I have had recurring pityriasis rosea since I was 21. I am having an episode again in my mid-30's for the 6th or 7th time. I'm losing count. The last time I had it was 5 years ago and my doctor gave me something that did not cure it but decreased its severity and duration. The first time I had it it lasted almost a year and they thought it was mono related until my biopsy's proved otherwise. Though it is a virus it dose not seem to be contagious and I have never had anyone around me experience symptoms. I have had several biopsy's to prove it is recurring PR as most physicians don't believe me till they see the trail of biopsy evidence. My doctor just prescribed me with Apo-Valacyclovir that is an anti-viral medication. She thinks this is what they gave me in 2014 that helped reduce its spread and severity. I'll keep you posted once I know if it is helping or not. I also find that coconut oil or sesame oil rather than creams work best to keep it from cracking, bleeding and getting more irritated.... Sun has helped my skin after the rash is healing and starting to subside but I found it was a bit too harsh when the rash is still spreading. Steroid creams made it much more painful.... I find I get recurring flu and cold like symptoms with my outbreaks and chronic fatigue. Wishing you all quick recoveries and mild symptoms ahead.
I have also had a recurrence of PR and was diagnosed with lichen planus. I am now wondering if they are somehow related since reading that you had the same thing.
