I am a 26 yr old female with a recurring uti problem, i had my first infection at 16 years old, had a couple more during college but had a bad year in 2012 with 3 bad infections that year but ciprofloxacin solved the problem and i was infection free for over 3 years, taking the odd cranberry supplement here and there but was concious of just drinking ALOT of water. For me uti's seemed to be related to sex so i became more careful following all the steps necessary for those who get uti's.
I recently met the love of my life this year, we had 2 months of "intimacy" every day if not twice a day and no uti's then at the end of february i got one on a sunday morning, they usually come on within hours, recognised it straight away and was on cipro by afternoon and cleared it up, had no problems for 2 months till going to my lovers hometown. Felt a uti coming on but did not want to spoil the fun with his friends and family so i took some amoxicillan he had spare for two days and felt ok, did a test strip and it said i was infection free.
Fast forward just over a week later and a raging uti came on (we hadnt even made love in 4 days before it came on, usually intimacy triggers it so this is concerning for me), i just suddendly needed the restroom bad and it kept getting worse so quickly. My guess is that it is the infection from vacation coming back as i did not treat it properly and ended up in the ER and was put on keflex for 5 days. I was infection free for exactly two weeks and now my uti came back again this morning. I was devastated. I did research and When i finished the keflex i took d mannose everyday and reduced our love making. I did not take it before intimacy yesterday morning as it was first thing but i had taken it the night before and after love making took alot of it after throughout the day yesterday but started to feel slight twinges of pain here and there. I used the restroom this morning and it felt like a uti and did an azo home test and it was positive and now i am back on Cipro for 7 days.
Im scared because i dont know if it is a stubborn infection that wont go away (surely i would not have made it two weeks feeling good if an infection was still in there??) or if i got re-infected yesterday morning even though i followed all the right things to do. I keep having to go to an urgent care for the problem to strange nurses and doctors as i travel with work so i dont have a doctor to help me on this. I just want a normal love life again as i have had a previous serious relation fail due to this. I dont know what to do anymore . I just want to cry over this all the time.

Vous pourriez vouloir vous renseigner sur le Cipro, car il y a des effets secondaires qui ne sont pas bons. Les antibiotiques à large spectre ciblent tous les types de bactéries et tuent les bonnes avec les mauvaises, donc je serais prêt à parier que beaucoup de ce que vous considérez comme des infections « rapidement guéries » pourraient en fait être des infections à levures.
Votre médecin cultive-t-il votre urine pour savoir quel antibiotique pourrait être le meilleur pour une infection particulière ? Avez-vous déjà subi un type de scanner pour vérifier la présence de calculs vésicaux/rénaux ?

I am not using any kind of birth control right now as we are happy if i fall pregnant. I have never had a bladder or kidney scan, as i was always assured i had a simple uti and all of them have cleared up with antibiotics even stubborn ones but it took alot of medicine. Usually a stubborn infection would never go away and come back in a few days but this one had me symptom free and feeling well for two weeks and has returned. My mother did have kidney stones when she was younger so im not sure if its hereditory. I have never suffered adverse reactions to antibiotics, just to amoxicillan which i am mildly allergic too (just get a chest rash).
My primary care doctor did cultures years ago when i had them in my country of origin but since i have moved to the US i have only been to an urgent care or a doctor at a planned parenthood for treatment and they only tested with dip sticks or spun the urine and never suggested lab testing, however when i went to the ER three weeks ago they did a lab test but i never got detailed results from this.
Im not sure if its a yeast infection?? How would i know? and do yeast infections present the same symptoms and give a positive leukocyte test?
I have taken day 1 of the cipro for my current infection, so far no urgency, no burning, no pain peeing, but i do have back pain, not constant but just a sharp pain from time to time, no feaver or chills or nausea, maybe the back pain is from drinking so much water? I did an azo test strip and it looks like number of leukocytes are going down, i just hope this infection is going away, im scared i'll have it all year
J'aimerais vraiment que vous fassiez des recherches sur Google et lisiez les effets secondaires de la Cipro (vous savez que c'est le médicament de choix pour ceux qui sont exposés à l'anthrax ?). Il y a environ trois semaines, un samedi, je me suis rendue aux urgences avec des brûlures et des douleurs excruciantes lors de la miction, une incontinence d'effort, des douleurs lombaires hautes et basses, beaucoup de sang dans mes urines (tellement que cela apparaissait en rouge vif sur mon papier toilette et ma serviette hygiénique) et on m'a prescrit cinq jours de Cipro. Deux jours après avoir terminé cela, l'infection est revenue et cette fois, j'ai vu mon médecin habituel qui m'a prescrit 10 jours de Macrobid générique (le Macrobid cible uniquement les infections urinaires). J'ai terminé cela vendredi dernier et je retiens mon souffle en priant pour que mon infection soit partie. Je n'accepterai plus jamais de Cipro ni quoi que ce soit dans cette famille.
Une infection à levures, j'en suis presque certaine, apparaîtrait dans un test d'urine (cela fait longtemps que je n'en ai pas eu un). De nos jours, guérir d'une infection à levures est aussi simple que d'avaler une pilule, alors qu'autrefois cela signifiait un cycle de 7 à 10 suppositoires. De plus, tant de choses sont maintenant en vente libre qui étaient autrefois sur ordonnance. Au moins ici aux États-Unis. Je crois comprendre que ce n'est pas la même chose dans d'autres pays, comme le Royaume-Uni, d'où provient ce forum.
Je doute fortement que boire beaucoup d'eau vous fasse mal au dos, bien que votre estomac puisse se sentir surchargé.
Votre médecin est-il au courant de l'épisode de calculs rénaux de votre mère ? Je sais que la maladie/gallstones de la vésicule biliaire peut être héréditaire puisque j'ai hérité cela de ma mère et ai fait enlever ma vésicule biliaire à l'âge de 15 ans et mon corps *continue* de faire des calculs biliaires (j'ai subi une procédure en 1990 pour élargir l'ouverture du canal biliaire principal afin que les calculs puissent passer et ne pas se coincer, ce qui est ce qui cause la douleur appelée colique biliaire).
Demandez à votre médecin traitant un type de scan pour les calculs. Je pense que l'échographie et/ou un scanner sont les plus courants, suivis d'une radiographie dans laquelle un colorant est injecté et suivi alors qu'il passe à sa destination dans votre corps (certains calculs sont difficiles à trouver à moins qu'ils ne soient gros). La plupart des médecins vous diront que les calculs vésicaux sont BEACOUP plus courants chez les hommes que chez les femmes, mais on m'a aussi dit qu'une personne de 15 ans ne pouvait pas avoir de calculs biliaires.
Faites vos recherches (Dieu bénisse les ordinateurs), faites une liste des questions que vous voulez poser et prenez rendez-vous avec votre médecin traitant. Écrire les choses signifie que vous n'oubliez rien dans le stress du moment.
Vous devriez vraiment discuter de votre plan d'action pour la grossesse avec votre obstétricien/gynécologue. De nombreux, nombreux antibiotiques *ne sont pas* compatibles avec les mères enceintes ou allaitantes et comportent des mises en garde spécifiques contre leur utilisation dans ces deux cas.
I started taking the d mannose straight away when i finished my last round of antibiotics, took it 2/3 times a day as a preventative as i had no symptoms or incling of an infection and was feeling great for 2 weeks , was concious to take it especially after sex and throughout the day on those particular days in powder form and took it last thing before bed so it could sit in my bladder most nights (i did miss some doses) so i was very disappointed when the uti returned sunday/monday. I also took a womens probiotic for a couple of days to but good stuff back in there but i was not vigilant with it as the antibiotics didnt upset my stomach or give me any vaginal flora changes. The uti did not return with terrible vengence i just had stinging when i finished peeing but i knew the feeling so well and did an azo home test and it was positive for leukocytes, i kept taking the d mannose and did further home tests and it seemed the leukocytes were increasing so i went to the doctor to get antibiotics as im terrified it will reach my kidneys as this happened very badly back in 2012 and left me very ill for a month or more.
Maybe i should have given the d mannose a better shot......should i take it along with the antibiotics too? Or am i wasting valuable d mannose as the antibiotics are killing everything anyway? I took some today as i had bad back pain and it seemed to help it, infact the pain is gone, im only on day 2 of my cipro. I find the d mannose is quite expensive for me so i dont know how viable of a preventative measure it will be for me. I found previously that a combination of 1000mg cranberry tablets twice a day plus alot of vitamin c and a general multivitin kept me infection free for 2 months but then myself and my partner got caught up in the moment and made love when we really were not clean...stupid stupid mistake. Almost immediately after i could feel the bacteria just moving in there. Im still so mad at myself to this day as it is the infection that got in that day that is giving me trouble, i did not treat it appropriately at the beginning and now im on my second antibiotic in less than a month to beat this thing. Should i take the womens probiotic during antibiotic treatment or wait till im finished them again? I know you have to be accurate with the timing of taking a probiotic during abx treatment as the good bacteria will be killed off if you take them too close together in the day.....
Ugh just so frustrated and my usually high sex drive is just non existant now and my partner feels like i dont find him attractive anymore and that he's dirty and infecting me...but we will work through this, i jist keep telling myself "i will beat this"
I agree, thank you for your advice, unfortunately my sex drive is just non existant now, myself and my partner have agreed to refrain from sex for quite a while till i get rid of this infection and i have a few weeks to a couple of months of normal bladder functioning and i can build up my immune system after taking the antibiotics providing of course that they work. So im thinking pregnacy is not in the immediate future, maybe we will try in 2017. Im determined to beat this though, i did in the past and was infection free for over 3 years.

I guess the d mannose just sticks to the bacteria so its not like the antibiotic can "kill it" sorry if my question seemed stupid, just my head is all over the place trying to find a resolution and reading so much stuff online is making things worse as 80% of the reading is just horror stories, i have to believe in the strength of my body to beat this and try and relax.
Il ne serait probablement pas une mauvaise idée que votre partenaire soit examiné. Il pourrait vous réinfecter avec une certaine souche de bactéries et ne présenter aucun symptôme lui-même. Je sais qu'un médecin traitera les deux partenaires lorsqu'un des deux a une infection à levures.
I was just reading this discussion and wondered how you are getting on. I hope the infection has finally gone. I'm in the UK but agree with all the advice you've been given here.
Did your doctor ever tell you exactly what bacteria was causing the problem? D-mannose is expensive but has been proven to get rid of e.coli infections that antibiotics can't shift, if it's used consistently. There is a website about it.
I noticed that you've had 2 courses of Cipro already, and I know Sandra has warned you about it and you said you've read bad stuff about it. I would strongly advise you never to take any Cipro or any other fluroquinolone (Levo etc) ever again. They build up a toxicity in your body and you may feel ok until your personal threshold has been reached. One more tablet could put you over that threshold, and then you can get all manner of problems including tendon damage, permanent neuropathy, gut problems - the list is very long.
