Red, burning eyes

For the past week my eyes begin to tear up profusely, burn, and turn bright red. It only happens for a minute or two before they go back to normal, but this has been happening more frequently. It happens indoors and outdoors. Any thoughts on my dilemma?

You could be having an allergic reaction to something . Have a think...what are you near, and what are you doing when this reaction starts? Pollen, house dust, pets, animals, spray preparations like hairspray or cleaning fluids etc etc.  If you use eye make up could it be that?

The allergic reaction has crossed my mind, but don't see how it's possible. I've lived here for five years now and I've never had allergies before. Whenever I have these attacks I've always been in different places such as my room, stores, friends' house, inside a vehicle, and sometimes outside. The only thing that really links all of these together is that they've all happened in the evening or late night. I'm not sure if it had something to do with that time. Thank you for the feedback, I'll have to look more into if this is an allergy.

You could be heading for Blepharitis or dry eye syndrome if you cant pinpoint an allergy. Do you look at a screen for some time, especially in the evening and then you get an attack? Are you blinking enough? Sounds silly but blinking is often forgotten when looking at a screen for some time. You have to remind yourself to do it..

In most cases, once the irritant is taken out of the equation, the burning eyes see improvement and symptoms go away. Still, burning eyes are often accompanied by other symptoms, such as:

1. Watery Eyes

2. Redness

3. Eye Pain

4. Discharge

5. Itching

There are many reasons for eyes to burn. In most cases it is due to an environmental condition, and the sufferer needs to remove himself or herself from the area in order to see improvement.
