Red dots

I have little red dots on the side of my penis head comes and goes smells kinda funny no blisters no pain not itchy but more noticeable when erect

This could be an indication that something is developing.  How long ago did you first notice them?  If you look really carefully at them, do they look really small on the surface layer of skin of the glans / head (the size of a pin prick), but appear to broaden out and may be slightly darker in colour around each of the dots?  Should this be the case do watch closely to see if the red dots spread across the whole of the head of your penis.  Also, note any changes to the foreskin - presuming you are uncircumcised.

What you MAY have developing is Balanitis Xerotica Obliterans [BXO], the male version of Lichen Sclerosis [LS].  In terms of the smell always wash the head area of your penis with water only every time you urinate, are sexually aroused or ejaculate - then ensure you are completely dry.  If you cannot wash (public toilets etc) use tissue paper to dry the complete head area, then wash A/S/P afterwards.

Should the symptoms become much worse, avoid placing anything oil based - lubes, baby oils / gels, skin lotion / ointment, etc - on the head area of you penis for a while.  Use natural, skin friendly skin applications such as Coconut oil only to treat any dry skin, or for Lube.

If nothing seems to help and the symptoms keep getting worse either see a Family Doctor, a Dermatologist if you can self-refer, or go to a Sexual Health Service such as a GUM Clinic.  Even if you don't have BXO it would be good to know what you have exactly, so the sexual health service could be the best option.  NOTE: BXO / LS is NOT sexually transmitted or a sexual infection - the recognised treatment for it is a Steroidal ointment (usually Clobetasol) - what may be suggested to you is that you get circumcised (presuming you are not already) - this is totally unnecessary.

For Male LS / BXO sufferers, the essentials are to find the right Steroid ointment that is right for their particular skin-type, get the frequency of application right (daily, every other day, twice / 3 times weekly, etc) AND if uncircumcised, you MUST regularly stretch the foreskin to avoid Phimosis developing.

SHOULD it be confirmed that you have BXO / LS you can post any issues you have with it on this site - start a new discussion forum - or Personal Message me, by clicking on my name - I have been dealing with BXO for over 7 years - I was told to get circumcised, and my foreskin now is much healthier now than it has ever been!
