Reflux, Nausea, Sore Throat, Coated Tongue

Hello and thanks for reading. I'm a 27 year old male. 2 1/2 months ago I experienced some heartburn and sore throat after a weekend of heavy drinking and eating. A few days later I visited a urgent care because the sore throat had not gone away and I was experiencing mild nausea. I was prescribed Omeprazole and sent on my way.

2 months later my symtoms had progressed. Sore throat, chronic throat clearing, belching, shortness of breath, yellowish tongue, night sweats, and back pain. I was also starting to get mildly nauseous more often. My GP switched me to Pantoprazole and tested me for H. Pylori (negative). I was referred to an ENT for my sore throat and a GI for my stomach issues. My GI appointment isn't for another month so I'm still waiting on that, but the ENT did confirm the presence of acid burns in my throat and strongly believes my throat pain is due to reflux, event though I have no heartburn. He advised me to switch my PPI dosage to right before bed time, which has actually really improved my throat problems. Unfortunately the nausea is now a daily issue, for a little over a week I've been nauseous every day especially after meals. I feel myself producing and swallowing more saliva than before which may be contributing to the nausea. My tongue is also still coated yellow all the time. If I brush it I can get it pretty clean but after a meal or later in the day it's back to having this yellowish film especially in the back near my throat.

I thought my 2 month sore throat was horrible but this nausea is even worse. I can't take it anymore, can someone shed some light? My main suspicion is Hiatal Hernia or Barret's Esophagus but until I get an endoscopy I can't know for sure.

If you have confirmed acid burns in your throat, this would suggest heartburn.  You can get silent acid reflux where you don't feel the acid at first but you get the indication of it when you start to cough.  I get this with acid reflux.  Milk and antacids help.  Wait to see what the endoscopy shows.  Acid burns can also be seen with this procedure.  Reflux can cause chest pain and nausea too.

Thanks for your reply. Do you experience sore tongue or a painful soft palate with your reflux? On days when my throats hurts I get red spots on my soft palate and the inside of my mouth feels irritated all day. The spots will go away after a couple days but eventually come back with my next throat flare up.

No, my palate and tongue are fine.  The acid burns are probably causing the discomfort in your mouth.  Try avoiding anything spicy to reduce the pain and acid.
