Returning to work after tah

Hi how long has everyone been off after a tan.

I was given a sick note for 6 weeks but my husband is wanting me to return after 4 weeks.

Said I won't need 6 weeks as i am different now to when I had op 10 days ago so won't need 6 weeks.

Thanks

Hi Jo

My gynie gave me 2 month sicknote and I will be going back when I am ready as it's been 4 weeks since my op I'm still in pain and very sore x feel ok then if I have been out maybe to shops I am knackered x to be honest and as you are aware there are hundreds if stitches inside that need to heal but I would wait until after your six week check up xx

I had my op on the 25th of February and I took two months off but I'm a self employed courier delivering some heavy parcels sometimes but don't let anyone not even your husband say when you should go back to work the only people that can is you and your consultant . Lyn .

i assume either you work for your husband or its a money issue!!  You cannot go back before 6 weeks even if you feel good as your company cannot take you back if you have been signed off sick.  I felt really really well at 5 weeks and i have a seated job, i went to drs to get a fit for work certificate ready for going back to work at 6 weeks and he insisted i took another two weeks off so ended up having 8 weeks off in total.  Apparently between weeks 6 and 7 is when we can do the most damage as finding our feet again especially if you do a manual job where you lift etc also you cannot drive until after 6 weeks as not covered by your insurance company, don't know if you drive to work or not.

Tell him to get lost you need 6 weeks minimum it's major surgery

Hi

I had a vaginal hysterectomy on the 1st August. All good and feel well but the doctor that carried out the procedure has said 6 weeks off work. I work with children so she has even suggested an extra 4 weeks after we go back in September.

When I had my biopsie a couple of months ago she gave me 4 weeks. I went back after 2 but the school sent me home as I don't think they were covered so I had to take the time given.

As well as you may feel, listen to your body. Like someone said, you have loads of stitches inside and if they tore and became infected you would be back to square one. Good luck

Jo

Hi Nicola. Take it easy. I hope you feel better soon.did you have keyhole and was it a total one?

I still have my Fallopian tubes and actually thought I'd be really sore underneath, but nothing, just a slight dragging when I stand up from sitting.

Jo

Absolutely agree... It is major surgery

Jo

Hi Lyn

I agree with you. Although it may be financial for the other lady, it's really not worth risking your health for.

Jo

Hi Jo

I had full abdominal surgery I have no uterus tubes or ovaries all gone 😧 I've been told by everyone to take my time and stop thinking in superwoman haha but seriously please take your time your body will tell you if you doing too much listen to it like others have said you and your consultant will tell you when to return not your husband x also if you work with children it will only take one to pull you in the wrong way and you be bad again x

Hi superwoman

Haha, it wasn't me that said my husband says I should go back to work...my one wont let me do anything!!!! He's a star. Do I don't know quite what's happened and who has written what.

I just know that now you will be known as superwoman Nicola lol.

Take care

Jo

Haha I'm obviously not that super I'm talking to so many people on here they have all conjoined haha x yeah mine is a good one tooπŸ˜‡ thanks hon superwoman Nicola ha xx

It was me

Jo c

Well, you take it easy too. That really was major surgery!!!

And, we all need super Heroes.

It's really hard to sit back and not do anything. In my head I think, "I can do that", but reality kicks in and I so don't want to be back in the hospital.

Take care of yourself

Jo

Oh sorry... That will confuse us even more... I'm Jo C as well

Jo take your time, please, it's not worth risking your health over.

Take care

Jo

Hi Jo28473.

Please explain why your hubby says you should go back to work? Sounds like you work for him?

Unfortunately, men cannot fathom the seriousness of a hysterectomy...unless you tell him its like having his dangly bits removed! ;-)

It's really not worth trying to get back to work too soon....you will be back in the hospital otherwise, and it will take even longer to get well!

Everyone is different, re recovery speed...I am reading on here that some women take weeks to even take their first short walk, and others were walking a mile within the first fortnight! I hope you can get someone to explain the importance of resting and healing to your husband.

The reason he wants me to return is purely money because I don't get paid my full wage when I'm on the sick., I get ssp

Ah I understand. Well, if you can, try and take at least an extra week off - it just gives your body a bit more time to heal. I hope it's not a physical job? And when you do return, can you be put on gentle duties? I can't over-emphasise the need to not damage yourself, or you will be back at square one.

I didn't even get that when I was off I didn't get anything as I'm self employed but I wasn't pressured in going back to work

Same here, Lyn....thankfully not got a manager breathing down my neck, as self employed. Thankfully i have few easy jobs to do to ease me back into it, as of next week...week 4 after TAH.
