Rheumatologist

Went to see rheumatologist today and he had me doing bending and stretching and different things. Had me explain what problems I had been experiencing and still I am left in the dark waiting for diagnosis. He wants results of blood tests ANA and another one beginning with A I can't remember what. Also one that was PK something or maybe CK something because of tightness and cramps in my calves and shins. He asked for xrays of my hands and feet and I am to wait for an appointment for an MRI or ultrasound or something and when he has all those results back he will see me again. Is this usual?

Yes, that is all normal. I too had xrays taken of my hands, neck, shoulders. It's all part of elimination.

Stay calm and positive.

Keep us posted with your findings.

Gentle hugs  x

It is, they like to rule everything out first. I am having more tests done tomorrow and I've had a diagnosis for over twenty years but have some new symptoms she wants to check. Nerve conduction tests tomorrow then wait for another appointment to go back to see Rheumatoligist. It's a long road of tests and more tests I'm afraid!

Essentially fibromyalgia is a diagnosis of exclusion. He has to rule out muscle/autoimmune/degenerative disease which exhibit similar symptoms. CK (creatine kinase) and Protein kinase (PK), along with C-Reactive protein (CRP) are all measurements of substances involved in muscle activity and muscle breakdown. Be reassured that he is not taking the easy option but checking you for any condition which will deteriorate if untreated.

This sounds like your on the right track. All of these tests are perfectly normal and my well give you your diagnosis. I had to have all these done with the X-rays and scans and they all came back normal which then led to fibro diagnosis.

Good luck and take care 😊

I've had those sorts os things done before being diagnosed with fibromyalgia. It was to rule out rheumatoid arthritis and other rheumatoid factors. They diagnose by exclusion. I wouldn't worry.... Teresa.

Hi this is all normal dont worry Its test after test Im affraid, you will get their they like to rule out, what other things it could be, before finally giving you a definate diagnoses take care

Yes Honey,

It is all so frustrating. I am to have a second test for diabetes

and Lupus which is the Ana in my case..I am worried like you as I have Fibromyalgia, COPD, Asthma and IBS, along with a couple of minor things. Your Doc obviously wants to be sure of

everything. Frustrating as it is at least you will get some

answers. . Patience is hard but there is no choice if we want

answers... Good Luck and remember you can talk to anyone on

this site. Everyone is great ànd understanding.

Thank you all for your replies. I guess I am just fed up of waiting and suffering. When I saw the rheumatologist and he asked what problems I have having I mentioned all the various aches and pains and stiffness I have had over the past few years, but I did not even mention any of the non pain symptoms such as memory problems and tingles and numbness. I think all I did mention was that I transpose letters and numbers and sometimes say completely the wrong word to what I'm trying to say. Should I have told the rheumatologist everything? I guess I just thought his profession just deals with the pain aspect so it didn't occur to me until later about the other things

Hi Your gp is the best person to talk to about numbness pins needles and memory problems. personally speaking I wouldnt of told my rheumatologist about the other symptoms you were having its my gp I would of spoken to about them. my gp sent me to a memory clinic where I had tests done as my memory is very poor plus I was doing things like putting milk in the fabric conditioner container fabric conditioner in mt tea instead of milk. put the fabric conditioner in the fridge. burnt my self on the cooker a few times didnt realize I d burnt my self. the dr thought I could have the on set of alzhimers. I had some tests done. she put it down to fibro and the depression. Im having problems mixing words up words when Im speaking coming out wrong or saying something different to what the conversation is about. lots of problems with words at the miniute.fibro is a nightmare condition to have as your having to deal with so many symptoms. it affects our entire body take care gentle hug

its frustrating its disheartning when all you want is answears? unfortunatly it takes time. time tests different specialists for me took 10 years for diagnoses I was pulling my hair out with it all. you will get their in the end but it does take time unfortunatly. take care
