Rotator cuff tear

i had an mri yesterday that says i have a full tear. i am 65. should i have shoulder replacement surgery instead of repair? i am 65 and see dr thursday

I had arthroscopic rotator cuff surgery and bicep repair on my right arm six months ago when I was 64. I would not have any more invasive surgery than I would absolutely have to. I have complete trust and faith in my surgeon as he had done similar surgery on my spouse. I am almost 6 months postop will be next week, still have a lot of stiffness and pain quite often haven’t slept well for six months. But I would do it again because I had to. My mobility is slowly coming back and I can now lift 25 pounds, carry in groceries anyway. I injured both of my arms at the same time so I’m probably going to have to have the same surgery on my left arm soon I’ll find out in a week. Everyone has a different experience I was told I will probably have some pain until at least one year passes

When you talk to your surgeon mention SUPERIOR CAPSULE RECONSTRUCTION!

Google it…

SUPERIOR CAPSULE RECONSTRUCTION
This procedure is for those with irreparable rotator cuff tears. It utilizes a graft from the superior glenoid to the greater tuberosity to stabilize the humeral head. The surgery also involves using human dermal allograft and absorbable suture anchors. This procedure allows restored shoulder function, and delays the development of advanced cuff tears. Similar to the rotator cuff repair rehabilitation, the patient is in a sling following surgery for about six to eight weeks. Range of motion begins to return around six weeks, and strengthening occurs at about ten to 12 weeks.

There have been 10’s of thousands of these surgeries performed and no Shoulder Conference of surgeons and medical people goes without discussion and demonstrations of this type of surgery.

The results are fantastic…again google: Superior Capsular Reconstruction: Clinical Outcomes After Minimum 2-Year Follow-Up. That will give you a few of the medical studies, results.
