Salofalk Granules

Hi,

Just received a call from my GP to say I will be having my medication switched from Pentasa 4mg to Salofalk Granules apparently this is happened across the whole of my town.  Not sure how happy I am about this as it’s not been discussed and I don’t know anything about this medication.

Pentasa works for me I’m nervous things will change.

Also don’t like the idea on Granules on my tongue. Yuk!

Anyone else on these that can give me any advise?

Hi. My chemist couldn’t get ASacol rectal enema anymore so my gp switched me to salofalk . I believe it is the same medication : mesalazine under another name.

I had the same thing with suppositories. They swapped from pentasa to salofalk . I wasn't too Pleased about the swap but thankfully I was fine . They are the same thing but just a different brand

I usually take 4 oral tablets and they’ve changed them to Granules you put on your tongue? Has anyone experienced this? Not enemas?

I've not had a change in them but I do take the granules . They do the same thing as the tablets.

Thanks Michelle. Do they taste ok? The thought makes me feel sick but if it’s got to be done I will have to just go with it.

Probably a cost saving excercise as it seems odd to change otherwise.

They taste ok a bit like custard . When I first started them a tipped a small amount at a time and drank lots of water to wash it down now I tip it all on my tongue in one go and drink water . I dreaded using them too but honestly it's not that bad

  I had proctitis for several months with flare ups once a year or so. I tried proper dieting and no dairy which helped. But the only medication that put an end to it was an enama called budanofalk. No flare ups in 8 months now. It is more or else in remission.

My daughter tried the Salofalk and didn't suit her as had stomach cramps soon after taking it. Could have been coincidence but she never had any problems with Pentasa before was switched to Salofalk. She was switched about 3 weeks into treatment while talking prednisolone.

Although the main component is the same (mesalazine) , the delivery might be different and it might affect everyone differently. If you've never tried it, give it a go. If it doesn't work or gives you side effects, go back to the GP and ask to prescribe Pentasa.

Hi Michelle, I’ve just started the granules so can’t say how well the work for me yet but you are rights. The do taste like custard. There are a lot of them aren’t there! x
