Scar Tissue/Bump Inside My Lip

I was punched in the face during an altercation with another person. My tooth created a cut inside my lip. It was swollen for a short time and then became infected. After disinfecting with hydrogen peroxide, a large bump of scar tissue was left. It has gone down slightly, but it has been several months without decreasing in size. How do I get rid of this bump?

It will eventually go away on its own. I have exactly the same problem - though my bump was caused by a fall. The accident happened five months ago, but it's only in the last month or so that the lump has started to go down. It's still quite painful too, but less than it was. Be patient...

Mine has been around 5 months. It still is rather large and not painful whatsoever. Are you sure it will go down?

That's the usual thinking on hypertrophic scars. (I'm a former nurse btw.) They can, however, take a long time to resolve. Plastic surgery is an option, but the problem is that if you have a tendency to form this kind of scar, you risk getting an even worse one from the surgery itself. However, if you're in the US, you shouldn't have a problem finding a surgeon who'll attempt the procedure anyway.

If you're not happy with the answers you're getting here, why not consult a doctor?
