Hi I have bad Health Anxiety and recently have come down with a not so good sinus infection. Was on 10 days of antibiotics and did nothing. I read that sinusitis can spread to the brain in rare cases. I’m extremely scared now and it’s ruining my life. I have eye pain and headaches. Can someone tell me if this fear is valid and if I should be worried? Why didn’t the antibiotics help? It has to be bacterial since I’ve had it for a month?!
The sinusitis might be viral in origin, in which case antibiotics would not help.
See your GP to put your fears to rest, but I wouldn't be worried about it spreading to your brain. The chances of that happening are probably millions to one.
Honestly i'm with Phil on this. See your GP who will be able to address all your concerns. This forum consists mainly of anxiety sufferers who can relate but (and there may be some so I can't say for sure) I imagine most are not trained medical professionals.
I try my best not to read up on 'what could be' or symptoms with illnesses any more unless my doctor gives me specific advice to read up on something for my understanding or wellbeing. If I did, I'd go back to being convinced of dying from every worse case scenario going...I don't want to end up back in that place again. Truth is I could die tomorrow or next week or many many years down the line. I've wasted so much time worrying about something I have no control over. So I'm learning to accept my anxiety symptoms and trust only in my doctor's for medical advice.
I’ve had sinus pain for years.. it doesn’t have to be an infection. It’s the time of year, everyone is suffering from it. When I first experienced it I was scared like you that I had meningitis but I’ve had CT scans of the sinuses and there’s no infection it’s just allergies to the environment. Is the mucus yellow or green? Mines clear but I still have the pressure without infection. Try to boost your immune system with vitamins(I use alive max potency) and probiotics(recommend the jarrous probiotics), also get the nasal spray xlear and use it 3 times a day with Flonase. It’s the only thing that has helped me and I finally feel better and not dizzy and headaches all day.
