Scared

I had a smear test. Worried not until the phone call with high abnormal results. I go in Tues for another more invasive test and am scared to death.

I've had this too. I'm guessing you're going to have a Colposcopy. the doctor will use a magnifier so she can see the abnormal cells and remove them there and then.

Mine hurt as I have a very narrow birth canal so I had a general anaesthetic in hospital on Wednesday and she removed a bit of my womb and cervix and abnormal cells.

Please try not to worry. It's good that you are going for smears si they can pick things up early.

Good luck.

Sasha I know it’s difficult but try not to worry until after all your results. I’m speaking from experience. When I got my call for abnormal results I cried for days and I was on google pulling up all this negative information of what could be wrong with me.  They are going to do a colposcopy.  That wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I took an Advil the first time I had it done and an Aleve the second time. My pap came back abnormal two years in a row. To be safe this is what they do. I felt no pain during the procedure and period cramping for a day or two afterwards.  I’m sure I will need to have it done again this year. I’m not worried. I did all my unnecessary worrying after that first phone call.  They will scape off all cells that look to be abnormal and send to the lab.  If you have HPV that’s what’s causing your abnormal Pap smear. Most HPVs clear up on its own over some time. It could take years.  The most common type of hpv is as common as your common cold. Its so common many people have it but as a precaution they must do these biopsies just to be safe. My doctor wants me to have my Pap smear don’t every six months until the Pap results come back negative. Stop worrying.  Most of the times it’s not as serious as you think.  My doctors office was so nonchalant when they gave me the news of the abnormal Pap results.  and told me that I needed to come back for a biopsy. I started crying right away. They wanted to know what i was crying for. I guess this is such a common thing for them, but they didn’t realize it was a first for me so I didn’t know what was going on. I pray that things go well for you. If my words weren’t enough to soothe you, call you drs office and let them explain to you how common a negative Pap is. Especially if you’re not having any symptoms at all.  I do have a tiny pimple on my vulvar that’s been there for years. When I got my negative result I thought that might have been my sign that something was wrong.

Oh buy the way. I took the Advil before the procedure. Which is probably why I wasn’t in much pain. I asked my doctor first if it was okay. She said yes I can take it.

Thank you everyone. I'm trying not to worry but google isn't helping me.

As a doctor once told me. “Stay off of google because everything on google comes back to cancer as a diagnosis.”  You will be fine. How old are you if you don’t mind me asking.  I’m asking because many times menopause and pre menopause will bring on a Pap result like that due to the changing in estrogen

Hi. Im 41. Just had the binoculars test today. They did a biopsy as well so have to wait for the results and super scared.

41.  Your body is changing.  Stop worrying.  I was premenopausal at 41.   Let us know how things went when you get your results.  I want to be the first one to say I told you so.

Hey there. So I will have to have that cone biopsy but am told no signs of invasive cancer so that sounds good. Also said if these abnormal cells spread further then will have to have a hysterectomy.

I told you sosmile
