SCM muscle ? Help please!

Hi all,

To cut a very long story short I have been suffering from dizzyness/spaced out / brain fog feeling and a general feeling of being unwell for about 10 months.

initially I was diagnosed with labyrinthitus and after around 10 days initially bed ridden I improved slowly to increase activity but never fully returned to feeling well.

the whole time I have had what feels like a small lump in the back of my neck and when the symptoms first started I had a bad headache to the back of my head for around a week. the day before I started symptoms i also banged my head on the ceiling of a car when we travelled over a bump to quickly.

I think the issue may be connected to the SCM cervical spine or both, my neck makes loud click/cracks when I tilt to the side like a joint popping. I have a dull pain in the collarbone region on the same side. I can feel some instability in my neck around c5/c6 which feels like a loose piece of bone or something ( I can press on it and it clicks) this is in addition the the hard lump I can feel higher up just the the right of my spine.

one major thing I have noticed is that when I have a shower and warm the neck area and then rub downwards firmly in the neck region it creates a loud crack/popping sound in my collarbone/sterner area. (My girlfriend could hear this stood in the bathroom while the shower is running) it's as if the heat affects it somehow?

one other thing is I have pain in my left arm (opposite side) around the inner elbow, this pain is worse when I press downwards on my palm I try to lift something as I f it is nerve related??

i have had an MRI and I am due to have an ultrasound of the neck next week but I am very worried it's something serious.

I'm glad you are seeking medical help. In my humble non doctor opinion it seems like you may have a nerve caught between some cracked or dislocated bone. Sounds curable. Don't lose hope for a solution. Please let us know the results of your ultrasound. Will keep you in my prayers.

You may want to go to a chiropractor. Also look up Barre Lieou Syndrome.

Hi Monkey,

I would see chiro.

Best,

lunda

I was booked into see a chiro but cancellled when I got my MRI scan through.

looking at barre liou it certainly seems to have most of my symptoms.

Prolotherapy it seems is how people fix barre lieou

if that is what u have

Does anyone else have any theories on what my systems could be pointing towards?

I have been looking into the SCM and I am fairly convinced that this muscle is in spasm - here is my theory - when I heat under shower in rub in a downwards motion and there is a click in my sternum/collarbone area this is the muscle releasing and when I realise the pressure there is another click/sound which is the muscle going back into spasm.

does this sound likely ? Also could 10 months of this muscle in spasm have cause some cervical instability which is the other movement I can feel in spine lower down ??
