I am 7 months post op for a distal radius fracture repai that they inserted a plate & 7 pins. At about 13 weeks, I started having burning pain in both forearms. I can’t seem to get a diagnosis for this. Just yesterday, I went to a competing Orthopod that ordered an EMG, PT & a med I was uncomfortable with. I called Medicare & they couldn’t guarantee coverage for PT so long after surgery which meant my supplement wouldn’t cover. So, I declined PT which was owned by the Orthopedic Group. Less than two hours later, the Doc had her secretary call & say “I won’t treat or operate on you. If you want the hardware removed, you need to go back to your original surgeon.” I was stunned. I can’t believe they’d treat a patient like that. I won’t consider going back to the same Orthopod who caused all this pain. My guess has always been RSD or allergy to titanium. RSD is a pain syndrome caused by manipulation of a fracture. Less than 5% of patients develop it after surgery. I’ve researched a lot online. I’ve been to a GP, rheumatologist referred by GP, back to the GP who said he couldn’t treat without a diagnosis. My original Orthopod said unless I did an EMG, he couldn’t proceed. What am I supposed to do?
