Seeing consultant tomorrow!

Have I missed anything?!

Here is my checklist - please help me - mind gone a bit blank! - anything else anyone thinks I should be asking him???

(Thanks for your help!)

Driving - OK?

Swimming - OK? (can I do the breast stroke?)

90 degrees rule - does this still apply?

Airports - do I need a card/letter etc?

The operation itself:

Is the head metal? (I'm not certain!)

Is it normal to have screws into the pelvis?

How large is the head?

My OTHER hip - what 's that looking like?

Sleeping - can I go on operated side? (Not that it's comfortable... far from it)

Can I stop wearing the *********** TED stockings?!!

..... any other thoughts very gratefully received  Thanks!

Hey thanks Neil. I have 6 weeks review 11th Aug and been writing down questions. But you have just saved me the bother. As I hope to fly Dublin to Manchester 18 Aug I have to ask about that one too.

Oh yes and my booklet saysci can't wash floors or hoover for 3 months --- not that that bothers me-- but also says I can't hang out washing so I want to ask about that but doubti f that will be a problem for you.

Another thing I want to ask is about stairs. I still cannot do stairs normally at 5 weeks post op.

I was told one crutch from week 5 to review at week 6 but can I now practice walking without crutch.

That was pretty much what I asked. I got a card for airports. Cycling? Skiing? Lifting?

Only other thing I asked about was having a bikini wax......

I'm at 5 weeks tomorrow and apart from cycling back on the road I'm doing everything I was before (had anterior).

All the best.

Don't think Neil will be worried about bikini wax.

Hi neil

Your surgeon should show you your x-Rays there and then which will also show condition of other hip - it's amazing to see. You will not believe that it belongs to you when you see it

I asked about kneeling down and going to the gym

Linda xx

Hi

I think thats about it but be prepared for him to say no to the breast stroke.

They said I shouldnt do the brest stroke again.....because of the leg movement

But they are all different

Good Luck

Love

Morning Neil,

I'm going to see my consultant tomorrow and my main questions are around leg length differences, driving distances (I've been told half hour max but I need to drive long distances ) , flying long haul, and state of second hip. I'm 8 weeks and I've been driving etc for several weeks.  I'm fortunate that my consultant gave me his email address so I've been able to ask some things weeks ago by email.

Laura

Thanks all for the helpful suggestions.

Georgie, thanks for reminding me re cycling .... had forgotten that

Skiing - well, I had said to him at the outset that I wanted to go skiing in March... and he said he couldn't see why not... will double check

Linda, thanks for kneeling - again had forgotten that

Attractac, thanks for the flying question.... well I DO hang out the washing! regularly!  no gender roles around here

but yes, I will maybe not explore the bikini wax question....

Woooo Hoooo!!! I can take off the TED stockings!!!!!

In fact I just have

And can drive, indoor cycle, swim etc etc

So all is good.  And he thinks my other hip is fine at this time.

Didn't ask about bikini wax, sorry

I did quiz him re the breast stroke - and he said that there is no medical evidence to show that this is in fact harmful (& he is Professor of Orthopaedics at a top London teachng hospital, so I assume he can say these things with authority).... but he said it was just probably not wise to do it for the next 6 weeks, just to be careful and use the new hip wisely.......

Onward and upward!

Oh blimey!

Live got my check Wednesday... I've been hanging washing out, hoovering at three weeks!! Didn't realise I shouldn't been doing that!

I really hope my consultant says ok to breaststroke I'm more concerned about that than anything!

and I need to get rid of this penguin waddle! Hope he sends me to physio..

oh well!

Goid luck Neil for your hospital check!

Thanks Linzi - all was great in fact.  See my post above re breast stroke

I read the post after I replied to it! ( typical blonde moment for me!)

I'm pleased all went well, especially the bit about the swimming

linzi x

Thanks x

Great news.

Please ask if you can jive. I love country dancing but think my consultant would think I'm mad wanting to jive at my age.

haha too late!  Been and done

Linzi is the next to have her check-up - best to ask her

That's awesome, yeah my surgeon told me it's ok to do breast stroke as well. I hit the pool yesterday and swam  with my fins on freestyle....felt great.

as for the TED stockings.....yahoooooo !
