Hi all. 4 weeks post op tomorrow, total right hip, and been getting along really well, better than i expected.....until Friday. Now whenever i sit for longer than 5 miutes i am seizing causing a lot of discomfort on standing and taking the first 5-10 steps. Also getting sharp pain in one particular spot about a third of the way down my thigh between hip and knee. Has anyone else expeienced this or is it just me. Only being 40 i thought i was invincible...it would appear that im not.
Hi Hippymatt
what did you do on Thursday?
I am 4 1/2 weeks post op and find if I try to push myself too hard I get the same. Pain in groin and as you mentioned pain in leg. I find if I make myself rest (which is hard!) I recover. I you say you are only 40 but you still have to give yourself time to mend.
If you are really concerned get in touch with your consultant to make sure all is ok.
How active were you before op?
i know now it's frustrating but be kind to yourself! I am a very fit 60 yr old
best of luck

Hi carol.
I reached two milestones last week, driving short distances and back to work on light duties, this said, I have done it all at my own pace and done nothing beyond what I felt comfortable with. However, maybe it is a build up of doing this little bits that takes its toll in the end. I have found it very difficult stopping myself doing things that I think I can do !! I forgot to mention that along with these symptoms, I've gone backwards on the sleeping thing, where as I was relatively comfy in bed I am now finding it most uncomfy. Also my scar has starting stinging like a didn't think was possible, it's like the surgeon is having another Pop at me without the anesthetic. Seem to be going backwards rather than forwards at the moment. Matt
Hi Matt,
I am so sorry to hear about your discomfort - It is quite normal to do more in week 3 and 4 ... all kinds of weird pains might show up ... does it go away after the intial steps -
have you watched the THR surgery on youtube? not for the faint hearted but for me, it was an eye-opener - I watched 3 weeks post-op ..(had ot found this forum yet!)
And yes, contact your GP or surgeon when you are concerned ...
Oh,of course you are invincible ...
warm hug
renee
perhaps you have overdone it earlier - 4 weeks is still not very long. I would relax a bit more. hot packs are good for tight muscles.
I am 10 weeks post op and even now I get stiff if I have sat down for a while and I will get back ache, groin pain when I have done it,also my left hip is now playing up and I know that has got to be done at sometime I have to wait 3 months before I am put on the list again

Hi Matt,
I am 3 weeks anterior RTH and haven't experienced this. I do get pinching in the groin if I have sat for a while.
I am 45 and finding it frustrating, to feel so much better than preop but so easy to over do it.
Maybe be the physio can give you some exercises to stretch it??
Good luck π
