I've been on Zoloft since July 10th of this year and I'm doing pretty good with it. It has gotten my anxiety down to almost nothing. I have about 10-20% lingering but not bad. My only issue is sleep. Can't seem to get much unless I take something but there's where I'm having trouble. For some reason my body rejects every medicine I try within a short amount of time. I don't know why. I guess my body is saying no to medication which I would be fine with but need my rest. I'm not one that ever took medicine until July. Never had problems with my sleep. Nothing. Until I got put on buspar and it's been downhill ever since. That Medicine in my terms is the devil. Anyways. I've been researching magnesium and have read a lot about how it can help with relaxing and getting your sleep better so I asked my doctor and she said she wouldn't recommend it. I don't understand why they don't want me to try something that should be better than prescribed medications that's just gonna make my problem worse.
Anyone have their thoughts on this?
I'm not sure, maybe your doctor is just being overly cautious. I don't see why there should be a problem. Maybe ask your pharmacist? Did you have sleeping problems before going on sertraline?
Yes. My problem started from my birth control causing my anxiety to start and insomnia followed. I’ve done a lot of research and found that lack of magnesium can cause problems with anxiety and insomnia. So I went ahead and bought the magnesium and I’ve been using it and it is helping a lot. I was skeptical but it has made a huge difference. I asked my doctor right before I got it and she’s like no, I wouldn’t recommend it. But I know I’m deficient in a lot of things so I went for it
I'm glad to hear it has been helpful. I have been thinking about trying a magnesium supplement as well to help with the insomnia, but have been nervous about trying it.
Are you sleeping better now? How much are you taking? Do you take your sertraline in the evening or morning and how long/dose havd you been taking it? My sleeping s really bad too and always has been pretty much. The anxiety has calmed right down but still struggle to sleep at night.
I would recommend you try it honestly. I started out with a half of a pill. The recommended dose was 400 mg, which is two capsules of the brand I bought. I took a half of one for two weeks and day one I noticed a difference immediately with my energy and calmness. I’ve been having a lot of back pain from coming off my birth control and it’s helped all my symptoms with that as well. I was nervous too but I am not someone that likes medication or to take it so I’m looking for alternatives so I can get off the Zoloft by the first of the year.
Before starting the magnesium I was lucky to sleep 2-3 hours without any sleep aide. Prescription sleep aides wouldn’t work for me and the Ativan I take as needed was the only thing that helped with the addition of other sleep aides combined but I don’t want to rely on it or get addicted to it so I stopped taking it for sleep and started the magnesium and the first night I slept 6 hours. Some nights are better than others but I’m sleeping without any prescription drugs and I say that’s 100% improvement. I started with a half of a capsule. So 100 mg. And I took it for two weeks and yesterday I started taking the full capsule. I still split it in half. I take half with breakfast and the other half with lunch. I just started it two weeks ago and I plan on continuing to take it. It helps so much with my anxiety that lingers sometimes and helps me relax and also helps my aches and pains. My sertraline I take in the morning and have since I started it in July. I recommend you give the magnesium a try. It can’t hurt you and you may be surprised of the benefits.
I think I've got some so will give it a try tonight. I hate not being able to sleep, it leaves you feeling so crap the next day. My sleep has always been bad but the sertraline def has made it worse. It's funny as the anxiety is improving so you would think the sleep would also improve
How long have you been taking the sertraline? And what kind of magnesium do you have? The reason I ask is because there’s so many kinds and you want to be sure to take the right one because a lot of them cause diarrhea so you don’t wanna take that and try to go to bed.
