Sertraline increase and insomnia

I've been on sertraline for around 7 weeks now. After 4 weeks I felt somewhat better but not as good as I'd hoped. I was still having poor sleep and waking around 5am ish every morning after having woken up about 4 times in the night too. Anyway my gp said to try and increase the 50mg dose to 100mg. I decided to do this in stages so at the 6 week mark I started to take 75mg every morning. I've been in the 75mg for a week now and I do feel happier and less anxious in myself but my insomnia is dreadful, this morning I woke at 3.30am and couldn't get back to sleep. GP has prescribed me temazepam for occasional use but they don't help much. Does anyone know if the insomnia is a side effect of increasing the meds ie when I increase again to 100mg will it get worse? Thanks.

It is a side effect. And some time yes when you increase the dose it comes again. No it will not get worse, it will remain the same. But it should subside in time.

Glad you are feeling better now

Thank you Mandoza. It's actually been a bit better lately (although I'm still a dreadful sleeper compared to "normal"!)

Come on !! If you feel better than that is small price to pay for few more weeks.

It will get better soon

By the way, when did you get better anxiety wise? I am in my 5th day of the increasing and i am in hell at the moment. This is my second time in the med and i am haning in there ahhhh it is almost killing me.

Yes I did. I found that I felt a bit better on 50mg but it wasn't until I upped to 100mg that I started to feel the anxiety really going away. I've been on 100mg about 12 days now and feel much more like my old self.

Hang on in there a bit longer, I'm sure you will start to feel better soon

Thank you !!

Yeah what to do i am just hanging. It is a waiting game.

Thank yoy , hope u enjoy ur day
