sertraline - side effects?

I've been on 50mg sertraline for 6 days now and wow the side effects are horrendous. Is anyone else on it? My nausea is actually getting worse??

Also the insomnia is horrendous. I take it first thing in a morning but around 7/8pm I feel loads of symptoms, back pain, hot flashes, palpations then can't sleep. Please tell me it gets better

Hi Lynne,

i am on Paroxetine which is another SSRI like Sertraline, unfortunately these types of meds can take a while to take effect but the side effects happen straight away, they do ease off with time but I would make a note of them and times they happen and give this information to your GP. Sleep disruption seems common and this can lead to feelings of fatigue and also mind racing especially when trying to get to sleep. Relaxation exercises such as meditation can help but don't be tempted to take herbal remedies such as St johns wart as these can interfere with the medication. Sad though it is the best anti depressants take time to work but the side effects sometimes make you feel if they are worth bothering with. Hang in there, relax as much as you can and document your feelings it may help

Hi there! Nope, you're not the only one. I started on 25 mg of zoloft and they put me up to 150 mg writhin a matter of a couple months. YIKES. It was horrible, I had to switch to Prozac. I was throwing up and on top of it I felt "blah" all the time. My anxiety was worse then before. Also my doctors advised me to take it at night before bed to lessen the severity of the side effects and it makes you a tad sleepy. Stick with DO NOT just stop, it'll make you go nuts. I did that before...but let your doctor know.

I am not able to spend much time to read what has been said so far but.... I suggest contacting your doctor... I hope you get better!!!!!

hi

Sorry to hear your news!!

I'm also on 50mg Sertraline and have been for 6 weeks now.

I started on 25ng though...had some nausea but settled now. Working and no problems since.

You may just be one of the few who it doesn't suit.

Maybe try a different generic one ??

Good luck

Jinny

Hi Lynne,

I started mine 18 days ago and the first 14 days were ok and now my anxiety is all over the place! I was on citalopram for 13 years before that. I have a docs appt this pm. Everything feels unreal and so intense! I feel like screaming, shaky, on edge, can't talk, eat, concentrate, feel like I'm going insane ( I know things tend to get worse before they get better but I'm so impatient when I have this and I have a funny feeling he is gonna say lets increase the dose and then I'll feel awful for another few weeks!! Have u booked a new doctors appt? I hope u feel better soon. X
