I have been on Sertraline for 5 weeks for anxiety, but gp advised me to stop today due to it giving me temporary colitis (horrendous watery diarrhoea). I have been on 100mg,but down to 50mg for the past 5 days. The gp is going to put me on Escitalopram this Wednesday. Any advice on switching between these two, regarding withdrawal (or will it be easier as only been on Sertraline 5 weeks?) Also I've been on Citalopram before,so will it be easier starting Escitalopram? Any advice gratefully recieved
Hi Justine, I'm not familiar with those drugs but perhaps it would be worth discussing your concerns or questions over withdrawal and side effects on Wednesday? In mean time I'm sure the good folk on here will have advise and experiences.
Hello Justine,
So how did it go? Because I am probably swithing to the same scheem from tomorrow? Was it difficult?
Hi Irena,no the switch wasn't difficult,I went from 100mg of Sertraline to 50mg for a week, then I had a two week break from any meds (my choice). I then started the Escitalopram very slowly (again my choice,as scared of side effects) 2.5mg for 4 days, then 5mg for 4 days and then up to 10mg. May I ask why you are switching?
Hi Justine. I have just read your post. I am doing exactly the same switch. I was on citalopram for years but for some reason it stopped working. I was switched to Sertraline and I've never felt to ill. 9 weeks now and the constant diarrhoea is now unbearable. I've lost over two stone in weight. I feel sick and have headaches. How did it go with the switch over to escatalopram? I'm so worried about all these side effects carrying on?
Hope you are well and don't mind me asking you.
Best wishes
Jane
