i have such exhaustion after doing a three mile walk and housework.thought by now I would have the energy I use to have. I am 69 yrs old.
Hi. Carol
How often do you walk 3 miles? How often do you do housework after the 3 miles?
are just starting out on this routine ?
Any operation takes a huge toll on the body, not to mention 2 tkr's. I think you might try cutting back. Walk one day, do housework the next day.
Hi carol,
i don't have the answer, as I am 9 weeks out from left TKR .
i am 71 and doing pretty well. I am nowhere near being back to my normal energy!
also, I can't even imagine having both knees done at once. I'm praying I never have to have my right one done. This is the most difficult time I have ever been through. My dr. Said it would be a year till back to normal.
sounds like your doing a lot, I know it's frustrating!! Best of luck to you.
Hi Carol I think you may be overdoing it. When you feel tired try to put your feet up and rest. I am nearly 9 weeks post left Tkr surgery and I have to have my right knee done once I get over this. I am still struggling so after having both done I can't imagine how you must feel. I am told it takes a year before you are fully recovered , I think you have done well to be doing what you are but I think you definitely need more rest. Best wishes Jannette
wow!!!! carol where is the fire !!! ha!! why do a three mile walk ? why not a shorter walk and give yourself time to recover while you tackle the housework .i know we all want to get back to "normal" but rushing it wont get you there any sooner my mantra is "its a marathon not a sprint " please slow down im 58 and have had a hard time of it as my bilateral went badly wrong which led to numerous ops after .your 69 yrs you obviously have had a great result which is fantastic ,but dont ruin it all by pushing yourself behond what you should do .its crazy really alot on here feel if i do more i will get there quicker you wont if your exausted 7mths is still very early days well done for getting to this point but take it easy
Please use your common sense. Like IrishLinda says. What's the purpose of going 3 miles. I think you are pulling our leg....ouch, it hurts. I don't believe you are doing what you're saying.
I am 7 mths left tkr and am having right done very soon, my left knee still has swelling on the back but I try and carry on as normal, just some days are less normal than others!!!! I walk about a mile and a half then rest, then do a bit more and rest.its all about paceing yourself. My recovery is taking far longer than I thought and my bend is about 100deg.I am determined to improve and sure I will. Your doing amazing!!! Just don't be too hard on yourself
Hi Carol,
Well I am 68 and if I did a daily three mile walk and then came home and did all the house work I'd feel pretty tired.....it doesn't matter how you used to feel you have just recently had a major operation you are going to feel tired any way. Your body needs time to regain the youthful vigor you once had. Be patient it will come back and don't worry. The older you are the more time your body needs to recuperate. I'd say you're doing fine, patience is the key. Good luck for the future. Elaine has it about right.

I'm doing similar milage every day after having both knees done since May last year. The last TKR was on my 65th birthday December 12th. I also do an hour's intensive gym work at least 3 days a week. Yes it's hard work and tiring but it's what works. There's no use waiting for the Fitness Fairy to come and wave her wand but it's not going to happen!
Use to be a long distance runner..but your right.need to slow down..only doing my walks now four days a week and only two miles?thanks for the advice.
yes, doing to much..going to back off..only walking four days a week and cut mileage to two..
One thing that has become clear to me, even though I'm progressing well, it's that no matter how much walking you do that the stretching exercises are crucial to full movement. I'm speed walking 5 miles a day but even that won't give you full flexion without those exercises.
