My 42 year old wife has severe myopia / retinal detachment. She has a tremendous amount of floaters and seeing is becoming challenging for her these days. Her prescription is approximately -15 in each eye if this is needed. Computer work especially is coming to a point where maybe she cannot continue any longer with her work.
She has been seeing a local Dr but I think with her condition I would like to find a specialist that can confirm or give her some hope that things can be fixed or the inverse. Is there a specific type of Dr she should see that can do this? I am willing at this point to fly some place too if there is a specialist that can help her at this point.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm sorry things are getting so difficult for your wife. I also have high myopia (although not quite as bad as your wife's) and have suffered a partial retinal detachment in the past. I'm not an expert, but I have always been told by every optometrist I see (for my regular vision check-ups) that any signs of retinal detachment and to go straight to the A&E (ER). It needs to be seen to asap to prevent lasting loss of sight.
I don't know exactly how it works in the States, but hopefully if you can get your wife to an ER, and they can advise - presumably refer her to an opthalmologist. If you can't get to an ER, try a decent local optometrist and/or opthalmologist. I wouldn't just rely on a GP.
