Shattering experience

So there i was shopping, when BANG goes my hip replacement. Turns out the ceramic has shattered into pieces.

When the doctor asked what make of replacement i had, i opened my SOS locket with the entire parts list and history - he was impressed.

Hoping to be transferred to RNOH on Monday, complex revision to follow.

Not able to walk now in case i damage the metalwork.

Chin up, oneards and upwards

Hi rocketman, that’s sounds terrible. What a shock you must have got.

How long post op were  you?

i really hope the revision surgery goes well and you are back on your feet in no time.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Oh my goodness! Didn’t think that was possible just walking! Was it painful?

How old is the hip replacement

I hope everything goes well for you. Best of luck.

Well at least you are going to the right place. I'm impressed  by your SOS locket - I suppose your bike history is partly the reason for that, but we should probably all carry one.

Mike

Oh my goodness what a shock. The surgeon couldn’t tell me what replacement I had had because it wasn’t written anywhere he could see immediately- I wasn't Convinced !!

Fingers crossed you are back on your feet in no time x

So sorry to hear that. Let us all know how you get on. We are all rootin for you

Sorry to hear this, just when you thought it was all over this happens. It is a reminder to us all to keep being careful. What make of hip did you have out of curiosity, mine is a charnley.

You certainly have been through the wringer. I hope the revision can be scheduled as quickly as possible and that the post remains intact.  You’re really a fighter so I hope the recovery goes well and that you can enjoy ur summer.

Yes. My advice is find out what you have inside you and carry the list ay all times

It HAS to be in your medical records. Insist on knowing.

Thanks,will do

BioMet. It only happened because it was put in wrong

Wow. You have a better attitude than I. Also it appears you’re better organized. Good luck!

Thanks,i don't give up easily.

Thos will take a bit of time, but i should end up with a good joint this time.

I will ring and ask !

I had heard of this happening with ceramic hips but I had hoped they had got over the problem. My surgeon was very against ceramic hips he told me, but that was because of debris not them shattering. What a nightmare for you, I cannot even imagine the pain.

So sorry to read all about what has happened. I never realized that the ceramic would shatter like that after all the time since they began using the material.

The SOS locket is a great idea.  I have medical history with me in my phone but never thought about something to wear. What kind/make do you have?

I have to find out more specific info from my surgeon about specifics of my implant.

Awww no!!

I bet you are in a lot of pain !!

You have had your fair share of troubles .... let’s hope that they make good for you this time ... maybe it is a blessing in disguise as they ll have basically start afresh for you

Very very good luck to you and keep us posted xxxxx
