For years I rarely had a full blown Meniere's vertigo with uncontrollable vertigo, nausia, etc. About a month or two after I decided to take the shot for Shingles I woke up one morning with one that was so bad my husband had to take me to the ER. Since that time (for over 3 years now) I have had bouts sometimes as many as 8 a month with dizziness, full head feelings, that I can control using meclizine. I read in an article about Meniere's that some people think that Meniere's is related to or possibly caused by the virus that causes chicken pocks and shingles. The shot I had contained a live virus to give me an immunity to getting shingles so I'm wondering if it also caused a flare up of Meniere's. Has anyone else had this happen to them or do you know anything concerning a relationship between Meniere's and shingles vaccine?
Hi there. Sorry to read about your symptoms. Regarding a viral cause for menieres, I take an antiviral, Aciclovir. I started on a high dose and then reduced after a few months to a maintenance dose. Since I have been taking it, for some years now, I have never had another attack. Worth reading up on the research of Dr Richard Gacek who has trialled and uses antivirals to treat the symptoms of Menieres. There are many ent's ,particularly in the uk, who dispute its validity but none of them can point to any research to support their view.

Und ich kann verstehen, warum du den Zusammenhang herstellst, nachdem du einen Monat vor dem Auftreten deiner Symptome die Gürtelrose-Impfung erhalten hast.
Ich weiß nicht, was die zugrunde liegende Ursache meiner MD wirklich ist, aber die Schwindelanfälle waren sehr schwerwiegend und sehr häufig. Ich musste auf intratympanale Steroidinjektionen zurückgreifen, um den Schwindel zu kontrollieren.
Ich wette, wenn du ein bisschen wartest, wird jemand deinen Beitrag bemerken und mehr über seine Erfahrungen teilen können.
Wenn du die Richard Gacek-Studien noch nicht gelesen hast, wäre es wahrscheinlich sehr hilfreich. Ich habe Kopien gemacht und sie meinem HNO-Arzt gebracht, so konnte ich frühzeitig auf das antivirale Protokoll für MD kommen.
Es tut mir so leid, dass du so eine schwere Zeit durchmachst. Es ist eine schreckliche Krankheit. Ich wünsche dir alles Gute.

Hi there. I had Shingles last Dec 25 and lasted a couple of months. My Vertigo and all other issues with my MD doubled and trippled. Yes I think your on to something. I have too researched into it. Of coarse mine wasn't the vaccine it was just getting Shingles.

I appreciate your reply. When I asked my present doctor about the possibility that the vaccine for shingles had exacerbated the minere's symptoms, he told me that it wasn't possible. I wonder if he's since seen this doctor's work?
I hope that you are doing better now, or did the extra amount of the symptoms just stay?
Well honestly I feel like I am just barely getting by. I am dizzy a couple days out of the week still but my major attacks of vertigo have decreased significantly. I am taking lysine for the shingles virus everyday. Same Virus gives you Cold Sores too. I had one had one in college many years ago. I am 47 now. But I had cold sores start to surface 6 months before I had Shingles. If I dont stay on Lysine I will get another one. Since this Vertigo episode is only a couple years old for me I am really wondering if there could be a connection. I am sure there are many things that cause MD. But I can see a significant connecting my case. I am going to do some more research. Thank you for asking.

Ich hatte vor etwa 2 Jahren vor meinem MD Gürtelrose, also habe ich keine Ahnung, ob das eine aus dem anderen resultiert hat. Allerdings fand ich die Studien von Gacek überzeugend... und es handelt sich um ein sehr risikoarmes Protokoll. Ich wünschte, Acyclovir und Lysin hätten bei mir gewirkt, aber keines der beiden Mittel half. Ich freue mich so sehr zu hören, dass Lysin dir hilft!! Ich sage, wenn es wirkt, mach weiter damit! 😊

Not sure, but I have had shingles for many years, on and off. Took acyclovir when a bout hit. Always wondered if there is a connection.
I talked to my doctor about taking an antiviral medication and he gave me a prescription for Acyclovir 800mg 4 times a day for 7 days. He figured it couldn't hurt I guess to humor me. He was familar with Gacek but didn't know about his use of antiviral meds for MD. Do you happen to know what dosage and frequency Gacek recommended? I took one pill this morning and ended up with a lump in my throat and tingling around my mouth...side effects? I'm afraid to take more. I took it with a banana and didn't experience any nausia (which is a more common side effect.) Now I'm not sure what to do.
When you took acyclorvir did you have any side effects? I took one pill and got a lump in my throat and tingling pins and needles feelings around my mouth and lower part of my face. Could these be side effects?
That's what happened to me too. My throat started to close too. I ended up in the emergency room.
So you had to stop taking the acyclovir. How many pills of the acyclovir did you take before you experienced the symptoms of your throat closing up? I took just one and had the tingling in my lower face and the lump in my throat. I wasn't sure if it was an allergic reaction or not or just my own fear of possibility of an allergic reaction. Sounds weird I know but ever since I had an allergic reaction to an allergy shot I've been concerned when I try new medications. Did your doctor suggest any other type of antiviral medication to take? Or not?
I only took one pill and had the reaction. He did suggest another one but I an not brave enough at this point. I switched over to the Pine Bark and Natural Diuretic. It is helping a lot. I am still curious about the other antiviral med but I am going to hold off for a bit. I am having good results after 2 weeks on the pine bark. They say to give in 3 months.

Es ist so frustrierend, weil es wirklich unmöglich ist, zu diesem Zeitpunkt für irgendjemanden die Ursache von MD bei allen Menschen zu identifizieren. Wir wissen es einfach nicht. Was sie wissen, ist, dass MD typischerweise fortschreitend ist. Manche Menschen haben große Zeitabschnitte ohne Symptome, und dann kommen die Symptome plötzlich zurück und machen sie wirklich arbeitsunfähig. Bei anderen ist es eher eine chronische Sache, die nie verschwindet, aber allmählich in der Intensität zunimmt... Es scheint kein einziges Muster für den Verlauf zu geben.
Verzweifeln Sie nicht! Wenn Sie das Valcyclovir wegen einer schlechten Reaktion auf die Tabletten nicht einnehmen können, gibt es noch andere Optionen, die Sie erkunden können.
