Short of breath feeling getting me down

I go through phases of getting this short of breath feeling it's like I don't get really out of breath walking or climbing stairs etc but just doing normal things in house I get this heavy feeling on my stomach and chest and although I feel short of breath I'm actually not if that makes sense I can continue to do what I'm doing it just feels like I can't get a breath along with this I quiet often have burping which makes me thing maybe it's wind that's causing this feeling but it's really scary when it happens. I don't even know if that made sense but any similar stories would be appreciated x

are you overweight at all lyndsey?

Hi no I'm not over weight just an average weight for my height

have you done a peak flow test for asthma

Hey,

I can completely sympathise with you, I've had this symptom before and it's a bugger, I found that it came on stronger when I was not purposely but noticing my breathing pattern. I found it easier to breathe through my nose as well when it came on, as strange as that sound. It's a main symptom though of anxiety, me and a friend both have had the feeling. I, touch wood, am over it as my symptoms change weekly at the moment, but you'll get through it. Try not stress and over think it otherwise it was persist longer. Keep busy and excersize regularly, I found these both helped,

good luck and hope you get over this soon.

It soundds very much like stress, lynsey - the more you notice it, the more it happens.

If you're not wheezy or coughing, especially at night and after exertion, then this is a form of anxiety, not asthma, and you're unconsciously swallowing air (into your stomach) which accounts for the burping (Glad to see it's quiet lol)

Sit down in a comfortable chair, close your eyes and concentrate on emptying your mind of all thoughts. Whilst doing this, breathe slowly and deeply (shoulders relaxed) with the emphasis on the out breath.

What you've been doing is taking in short breaths aand, as I say, swallowing air.

These are symptoms of anxiety and nothing to worry about. If it doesn't improve, ssee your doctor, and let us know how you're getting along.       love Tess xxx

Hi no I haven't had this I don't have wheezing or anything so just assumed wouldn't be asthma

Hi thank you for your reply it define try does get worse when I focus on it think that is my main problem it comes and goes as well and like you my symptoms change all the time as do the illnesses I think I have

Thank you for your reply I don't have any wheezing or a cough and like you said it doesn't get worse or happen much with exertion I think I do focus on my breathing to much and analyse everything little thing x

Do you have reflux or gerd? Cause this can be so related to that and easily fixed. I used to get that, having nithing to do with anxiety i thiught i was out of shape but i walked a lot so that made no sense. I mentioned it to my doctor and he smiled and looked in theoat and such and tild me i had gerd..reflux. Diet and some pepcid helped it and did so Within a week or two. This was a very long time ago so thats how long ago that was and fixed it. As you age this stuff all dies down on its own you produce less acid. But what you described i had. One easy way to proove it is do a handstand and see if it comes on. I used to get a heavy feeling from leaning over too long too. Anyway very easily fixable.

Yes I do have it a bit I think I went to doctors about 4 months ago as was having a lot of disco fort in my chest stomach and throat and lots of burping was put on omeprazole for a month this didn't make much difference I stopped this and over time the symptoms went away but have recently came back in past week or so

Try pepcid. Plain old Pepcid youll know in a week. And change your diet and add lots of water. Sleep with your head elevated. I know people are going to say its stress but the symptoms are so exact to reflux too. The older theory would yeast..candida in your gut causing all the reflux and bloating. That would be adding a good probiotic to your diet.

I have a niece in the military. She just told us this week-end while on leave, that they were taught that in times of stress, anxiety or short of breath to do the following, exactly as taught. That even in a combat situation, it will work to "get your calm back."

Breath in to the count of four...one missippi, two missippi, etc.

Do not hold the breath

Release breath to same count.

Repeat four times or until body releases.

I tried it...It really works. With each exhale I could feel my body let go.

Give it a try, lynsey..

It  might not be but worth eliminating anyway?

Always worth eliminating things, Richard.
