Shortness of breath - Anxiety

Does anyone have shortness of breath, it's more a feeling that a deep breath can't be taken , are anxiety symptoms people just experience all day every day as I do , I have really bad health anxiety and convincing myself I have heart failure .

Please any reassurance would be helpful .

Hi I know how you feel I wake up fighting this battle everyday. You just need to think it's my head playing tricks on me and say to yourself every morning you get up it's gonna be a good day x

This can be most likely corrected on a positive note. It can be. Biofeedback can teach you how to properly breathe. This is caused by improper breathing techniques.  Using your chest to breathe wont work. Period. You have to learn to belly breathe. Many can self learn it but some cant. They need to be hooked up to a machine and taught proper breathing. That way no room for error. The machines literally show you when you are doing it right and a counsellor is guiding you, it is called bio feedback.

Yoga properly taught can also aid in learning proper breathing too.

This does not need to be a part of any of this. Because it is trainable and fixable. Google biofeedback centers and hopefully ine is near you or exists in your area. If not see if theres a way to locate a yoga place that works with this. Oddly some soeech and language centers even teach this. They sell some of the equiptment on line to help, there are even courses on line  i believe there is even an audiobook on breathing online as well but way better to use an actual center to learn it.

I did bio feedback many years ago.it did help.

If this is something that occurs in your sleep a sleep apnea test needs to be done. Not something you want to ever consider but an important test either way. Not saying this is the root cause because anxiety attacks occur in sleep too. Which suck but the mind is awake even when we sleep and we dream and dreams can trigger anxiety attacks. Interesting many sleep aids and benzos remove rem cycles as well. So a lot to understand with this.

An example of some of the equiptment available (its a few hundred dollars it is an examole). I cooied and pasted this. Im nit an expert. The Respiration Sensor is used to monitor abdominal or thoracical breathing, in biofeedback applications such as stress management and relaxation training. Besides measuring breathing frequency, this sensor also gives you an indication of the relative depth of breathing.

The Respiration Sensor for NeXus can be worn over clothing, although for best results we advise that there only be 1 or 2 layers of clothing between the sensor and the skin. The Respiration Sensor is usually placed in the abdominal area, with the central part of the sensor just above the navel. The sensor should be placed tight enough to prevent loss of tension.

In combination with the BVP Sensor you have a great tool for monitoring Heart Rate Variability (HRV). Respiration can influence your heart rate, when breathing in a certain way. When breathing around 6 times per minute, one will notice that the heart rate will go faster on inhale and slower on exhale.
