Shower?

i am now 3 weeks post op, can get around downstairs and round garden on one crutch although use  two if I go further.  I can easily stand without crutches.

i am desperate for a proper shower.  My shower is over the bath and I have been wondering if there is anyway of doing this without breaking the 90 deg rule?  I do have a bath step I have never used and wondered if I would be able to get in using this or whether any of you came up with some ingenious way of showering?

Have you tried a overseat bath that fits across the bath and you can use it as a seat, we used to have one till we changed the bath for a shower cubical,

Sorry I meant over bath seat you can pick them up from any mobility shop or red cross lend them, you could also try occupational health xx

As long as the dressing is off which it is...you should be fine on a bath mat, just be very careful, and dont over do it scrubbing on the scar area, you should be fine to stand, just go careful and build a little confidence, there is no real need to sit down, unless you are a little frail, is there anyone who can be in the bathroom with you??

Best of luck and keep in touch  Ian.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by shower over bath but if that means your shower and bath are together, you can step in with either leg just be sure you bend operated leg backwards at the knee til over the tub side and step back out same way.

I had the same problem and as we have a corner bath none of the bath boards were wide enough. If you can get one I would as without you have to place all your weight on your operated leg at some point to step in our out without one.

I managed at week 3 after staple's removed to step into bath/shower using the back of a chair as a support to hold onto when stepping in and had grab handles on the tiled walls for stability once in. I also needed help from my wife to get in and out. I lent backward when lifting operated leg, like getting in car to keep the 90 degree rule safe.

This was all against the advice of my physio, who said use someone else's walk in shower! I got away with it OK but you have to be very careful.

Go with a bath board if you can.

Good luck

Alan

I managed to shower 3/4 of myself today using a bath board.  I was able to sit on the bath board and also get my good left leg over the bath edge and shower so only my right leg was outside the bath and have a lovely hot shower and hair wash.  Lovely.  Not sure that I could, as yet, get my right leg over, particularly as the taps are on the side and get in the way.

i don't have anyone to help me so I don't want to risk too much until I am certain I can do things.  I'd hate to get stuck!

things are getting better each day.

Well done - having a shower never felt so good - you don't know how good until you can't have one.

It must be awful if you don't have a separate shower, but glad you have found a way.

Take care.

Graham
