Has anyone on this forum taken Narproxen...if so...are there any adverse side effects??
I took naproxen for migraine headache years ago. It was, to me, a miracle drug. Until I had toothache and dentist told me, as I had it on hand, to take it while I waited for treatment, and I didn't guard my stomach as I normally do when taking painkillers and ended up with such horrible stomach pain I missed a day of work and had to have a phone consultation with doctor what to do next. I also had a major stomach bleed but now that I think about it I'm not sure I was taking naproxen at the time. I won't touch it now. It's available over the counter as Aleve. When I took it it was still a prescription drug and think it should have remained that way.
Long story short, it won't work for PMR, none of the drugs do except pred, but it is an effective analgesic. Make sure you always have it with food, and don't lie down too soon after taking it.
Yes, several people on the forum have taken LOW DOSE Naproxen, including me. The ones that I have heard from have had good results. I believe that it is definitely helping me. My doc started me at 1.5 mg, increasing .5 mg per week until I was at 4.5mg, once daily at night. The other two people that I exchanged info with are also using PEMF therapy (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field - google it). I have also talked to several people with arthritis that tell me that PEMF therapy takes away the arthritis pain. LDN (Low Dose Naltrexone) is cheap - PEMF therapy is not - probably best to own your PEMF machine. The people that I have exchanged emails with regarding LDN/PEMF are in the U.S.
I have had absolutely NO side effects from Low Dose NAXTREXONE. Sorry, I misread your question.

It is an NSAID - non-steroidal antiinflammatory drug. It has all the downsides of any of the group, gastric problems and long term effects on the cardiovascular system.
It doesn't work in PMR for the majority of patients - but there are a couple of forms of inflammatory arthritis where it does provide some pain relief in the short term.
I wouldn't take it more than once or twice.
Aleve did not help me for PMR, and it is very hard on the stomach.
Hi Lilian I have taken naproxen for over 2 years twice a day. I also take Omprazole as well, I started taking when I had a flare up of arthritis.in my hands. My Rhmy said he was happy for me to take it if it helps. I was only diagnosed with PMR and have been taking pred since March'17. I have not had any side affects from Naproxen I would not take them on there own hence I take Omeprazole.
Yes, I use it occasionally for mild arthitic pain w/ good relief. I take two 220mg. It's very long lasting. Don't take it on an empty stomach. One side effect if some edema arond the ankles. It doesn't help PMR. Good luck! Elinor

Anyone with arthritis should be made aware that NSAIDS can interfere with cartilage regeneration. I'm with Eileen on this, they should not be taken for the long term, just used for occasional acute pain relief. There is research published on Internet.
