side effects of taking ramipril

Having taken ramipril for several months now, I find that having a sore throat has now become a sore mouth, besides the annoying cough.also veins in my legs appear to be bursting, and red spots almost like blood blister are apperaing anywhere on my body, has anyone else experienced these effects

I am on 10mg daily, and have had a sore throat and tongue for months, culminating in examination by camera in hospital, and no physical cause found.

Consultant said probably due to your medication, but offered no treatment.

I am swallowing all the time even though nothing to swallow, and my mouth is always dry.

I am trying to find an alternative medicine as these symptoms are depressing.

i am taking ramipril 2.5 and have been experiencing itching sensations then a red solid blister which can vary in size from small to a mass

the worrying thing is last time the lips swelled and from the nape of my neck up the back of my head it was a solid mass but when i saw the doctor there was no mention of it being a side effect of ramipril!!!!

it eased off but here i am eight weeks on and i am covered in these blotches all over my body

around the bottom of the spine it is such a mass it is hard to sit down properly this is very worying as i have seen a nurse today and she sugested a mosquito bite? but since this morning it is virtually everywhere on my body

has anyone else experienced this?

if it gets any worse my wife said she is taking me to the hospital

I've been on 5mg Pamipril for about 9 months. I've had itchy parts, rash and swelling - lower legs, elbows and sides of waist. Doctor says its eczma, but I've only had it since the Ramipril and nothing seems to cure it. I'm going to stop the Ramipril for a while and see what happens. Any idea how long it might take to disappear? I don't want to have a heart attack whilst I'm experimenting!

:?: Ramipril taking experience- WoW these ramipril taking experiences are really depressing, i'm just about to start taking

the drug to control my high blood pressure and can't believe what may- be

for myself & my wife!

If you read the side effects in the leaflet ,all those mentioned to a degree are listed,i have just had an unexplained anaphalatactic shock which was quite severe. After seeing an Alergy specialist he said said there was a correlation between beathing difficulties and Ramipril but not my condition that he knew of.If anyone else has suffered i would be interested.

I have had exactly the same experience, and am constantly swallowing for 2years now, consultant says eat lemon drops, its so depressing, anyone found an alternative.

I am on 5mg per day.I have this itchy throat and cough some nights. I find however that taking the smallest sip of codene linctus helps a lot tastes disgusting but well worth it. Be careful though as if you take it too much it can become addictive. I only have the smallest sip nowhere near even 1/4 of a teaspoon, and not always every night. Hope this helps someone

change your prescription,do not take no for an answer,Ramipril is

cheap that's why its used ,you should have to accept side effects like that when there alternatives that do the job just as well.

Hi, I found this page when looking for side effects of Rampiril. I have been on 1.25mg for about 8 months, and have had problems with a sore dry throat, and a cough. It got so bad that I couldn't sing properly, and that is my hobby. In the last few weeks I have developed an itchy burning rash all over my body. My doctor insists it can't be the Rampiril as it's taken this long to manifest. She told me to take a small break from it, and the itching and throat problems eased, but I felt so awful I satrted taking it again, and the symptoms have come back with a vengence! I am stopping taking Rampiril again, and going back to my doctor. This is not an acceptable side effect, and from what I am reading on this page, it can get much worse!

Hi. I have been taking Rampiril for about 2 years if not more, and have had an annoying cough for about the same length of time. I didn't know that it could be the Rampiril, but after reading these posts, am going to stop taking them, and ask my G.P. to check my blood pressure, and if I still need them, will ask for an alternative. No-one should have to put up the with side effects that I've read on here. it is your right to ask for an alternative medicine if you want it.

I have been taking Rampiril for a few weeks I have gone from 2.5 mg to 10 mg in Three weeks. I have now developed a dry cough and have cold sores.

I have also been taking Rampiril for about a year now and have suffered this constant, annoying tickly cough and dryness in my throat. My GP has dismissed my concerns as if they're just a figment of my imagination! In the last week I have, as a very expensive but desperate means of trying to rid myself of this condition, paid for a sessions of acupuncture, administered by a Chines practitioner. Within the first hour, with a herbal mixture rubbed onto my top lip, the cough ceased immediately.

Over a week later, I am still free of what I believe to be the Rampiril generated cough which has severely debilitated my life for the past eighteen months.

Why on earth can't the NHS in the UK recognise that their Western medicine can learn a great deal from alternative therapies and bring relief to their patients ?

I used to take Ramipril but i had a bad reaction to it after a number of years. It is known to give the sort of side effects that you describe inc rashes doctors know of this but its a cheap BP pill that's why its promoted .I will never accept what the Doctor's say if i feel the pill is the problem.10mg is prescribed because a few years

ago it was found that it has a benefit to ward off strokes but with the extra risk of side effects.

always search on the net especially some of the american sites where there is a lot of information, then get

the doctor to change the pill there are a lot of better ones out there

Following a heart attack in October 2013 I have been on a daily dose of 5 mg of Ramipril. I immediately developed nasty and itchy spots on my chest and back - and a few on my arms and legs too. They bleed profusely too.

I saw a dermatologist who said it was indeed the side effects of Ramipril; accordingly she wrote a note to my cardio surgeon - who just said "live with it".

Thanks a bunch.

Has anyone had substitute drugs?

Be glad to hear if anyone has a solution, as I do not see why I have to "live with it"!

You should not have to "live with it" A friend of mine is a pharmacist and when I told her about my side effects she said go back to your doctor. There are plenty of alternatives. I gave Ramipril about 10 weeks and went

back to the doctor and she put me on Candesartan 16mg. I still get some side effects but not as bad as

Ramipril. I will give them a good trial and if I am not happy I will go back again. Good luck.

VMT Helen99686.

I have discovered TELMISARTAN and will research Candesartan too!

Muchas and Ta ever so.

Hi I've been put on ramipril following heart failure for the past two weeks. The cough is the main problem but I do feel more alert and my vision is better . However I was advised to take Q10 ubiqunol by a very good

friend of mine for the US ( is an expert on medicine) as it helps with the effects of the drug and also is good

for the heart. It seems to be working as I am more alert etc.

Ideally my goal is come of the drug altogether and I think the key is to make your heart stronger by eating

better and more importantly exercising ( yoga is very good to improve heart muscle) .

All drugs have side effects, but by keeping fit and eating healthy will I believe , negate the effects. Hope this

has helped

Many thanks! The itching rash is subsiding. As is the dizziness. I have been told to try TELMISARTAN as an alternatve, but I will investigate Q10 ubiqunol for sure.

The aim is have no pills at all too! But the docs tell me they will keep us alive - so....!??!!

Best regards.

my husband has just been admitted to hospital hes tongue had swollen so much it was life threatning but once they give him steriod it is going down they said they think its ramipril even though he has been on it for years apparently sister has had 7 cases before through ramipril
