Constipation due à un transit lent

Hello Everyone,

I feel I'm not really contributing anything helpful to the group but it is comforting to know people are there. So here goes again. This is another rough and frightening evening. Hardly anything "out" yesterday despite all my medication and again I'm having difficulty with my thoughts. The black dog thought of what if this is it Pat and nothing will work again. It's so difficult to avoid lapsing into this state particularly as I can't actually talk to anyone about this except my doctor and of course she isn't "on tap" as it were.

As I've said on previous occasions, I don't know what you can really do to help - I'm sure you all realise I'm not being rude when I say that - but I hope this may be of some help and comfort to anyone going through the same thing. That said, any thoughts oe comments would be most welcome.

Thank you for reading this and all the best to you all,

Pat

Pat,

Have you tried wheat based probiotics? Really helped me.

I have Ibs, cfs, fibromyalgia, peripheral neuropathy etc. My pain meds cause constipation and the probiotics help. The one I get is expensive so I use one bottle, have a break and then again when I can afford it.

Raisins and oats help me go more regular as well as walking. The other thing is drinking enough. It doesn't have to be water. I now drink honeybush tea as well as all my normal drinks.

Relaxation also helps. I crochet, knit, spin, craft etc. The time doing something fun that relaxes the brain makes a difference.

Hope some of this helps.

Walking for me helps and drinking lots of water, maybe ask your GP to send you to aomeone who can help you with dark throughts.

Pat, thank you for your comments - it is both helpful and comforting to know others are going through the same thing.  In Canada, I'v found our health system doesn't seem to have any compassion for those with IBS.  In fact, the opposite is true. In the last year, I've been accused of faking symptoms to get morphine, and in one case, told "I was taking up a bed a sick person could be using"1

Hello Susan,

Thank you! Could you specif ythe probiotic you take? I realise that what works for one won't necessarily have the same effect for another but it's useful to hear about a definate success as thereare so many to choose from. I drink plenty of water and redbush tea too. Thanks for the other ideas!

Thank you Kevin. This is my third attempt to reply - the response doesn't seem to connect somehow! I don't know what pm means in this context but whatever it is, yes please. I didn't realise products can't be identified - I don't want to get anyone into troublel!

Thank you for your help

Hello Martin,

I take your point about slow transit and I accept that not performing every day in itself is more how you are wired rather than constipation. My case isn't just a matter of slow transit, there are other factors including surgery as a baby, but slow transit doesn't help! I also agree about fibre and I'm pretty clued up about that. Thank you generally and good luck!

Hello, I suffered from problems of constipation for many years. I finally got a diagnosis of Slow Transit Constipation about a year ago. I had tried everything to get things moving; these included drinking plenty of water, lots of exercise, a high fibre diet, laxatives, etc etc. Nothing produced a regular outcome! Then, with the diagnosis, I started to do more research. I realised that one of the causes of slow transit constipation is the sluggish movement of stool through the colon. That is when I started looking into taking Magnesium supplements. Magnesium is an osmotic laxative that draws water into the colon. The additional water makes stool moist, soft and slippery for easier passage. Because it is a mineral supplement that is not habit forming and can be taken daily, it may help to provide long-term relief of constipation.

I started taking the supplements 3 months ago and can honestly say that I have never looked back. I now have regular bowel movements. It took me a little while to work out the correct dosage required to suit me. I now take 2 x 500mg tablets of Magnesium Oxide first thing in the morning and then 2 again in the afternoon. I would urge anyone with this problem to give them a try.

I really do hope this will help others because I truly know the misery of constipation and I would love to hear back if it proves to be helpful.

Good Luck!
