SORRY LAST POST WAS NOT COMPLETE!

Hi i went on holiday around june 2014 last year and caught the sun as normal was absolutely fine untill i came home and 2 weeks later started developing a slight rash, didnt think much of it untill it started to get worse and itchier as the weeks went on, i saw my doctor and got reffered to a dermatoligist who done several blood tests and food allergy tests as they thought i may have been allergic to some foods, i was patiently waiting for the results, within 2 weeks i got the results back and everything came back fine and i was not allergic to any foods and my bloods were fine!!

Then made an appointment with the doctors again and was just given different types of anti histamines which did not really do anything, as the weeks were going on and on my rashes were getting worse and bigger to the point where i was completely covered from head to do and have had 3 cases of angiodema which caused my lips and eyes to swell up, i was given an epi pen by the doctors and had to use it within a week of getting it as my lips got big again, i have suffered from depression since i was 15 i am now 22 and have had this rash for a year, my dad put me on private insurance and have been reffered by my doctors to see a specialist in london and have been very lucky to have been given 3 treatments of xolair they work for few weeks but for me not completely gone and am still itchy, i have one more due but dont think i will be able to have as i have just found out that i am 3 weeks pregnant, i am currently on 3 tablets 180mg per tablet of fexofenadine which helps take the itchiness away but doesnt completely but have just been told by my doctor to stop taking these because i am pregnant, if i stop taking these my urticaria is going to be still so bad, i have been diagnosed with idiopathic chronic urticaria and each dcotor keeps telling me theres no cure it will go away in its own time, i cant cope anymore and now that i am pregnant i am trying to stay as calm as possible as i want the best for me and my baby but with this urticaria it is ruining my life!!!!!! 

I have now been given 5 epi pens to carry around as i could have angiodema at any point as thats how bad my rashes are!!

If xolair injection was put on nhs i think it would help everyone suffering from urticaria massively as it does take most of the itchiness away which is such a relief but me doing several of these through private insurance has cost £1,200 per injection so i am only entitiled to 4 but only last for few weeks up to month, with the way my urticaria is i am going to need one every month but now that i am pregnant i really dont no what to do!!!

I understand your frustration - the reason for my urticaria is still unknown and although it is much better than it was from December to March it comes and goes willy-nilly with no rhyme nor reason, on any part of my body, at any time, no matter what I eat or drink.  I've gone from 4 different antihistamine tablets totalling 10 per day to taking 1 fexofenadine and 1 cetirizine daily.  If I forget one or other or both of these tablets the rash returns within 12 hours.  Like you I can get swollen lips, eyes, mouth/gums or stomach lining (dull lumpy feeling at the top of the stomach). I am resolved to keeping a supply of these tablets and the 3 other antihistamines on my person at all times for the rest of my life.

With regard to pregnancy I cannot really help you since I didn't get urticaria until my 50s.  One thing I do know, though is that during my 2 pregnancies I didn't get one, not one, migraine or even noticable headache for the duration of the pregnancies.  I have a history of migraines since puberty and get them still, but it was as if my body was in tip-top form, hormones and everything meaning migraines couldn't develop - as silly as it may sound.  Maybe this will be the case with you and your urticaria during pregnancy???  That your body-changes will suppress successfully the urticaria for this exciting time for you.

Thankyou for your reply I think I will take 1 fexofenadine and see how I get on but I tried that yesterday and they came up really bad and still are now but I'm scared if I keep taking the tablets it will harm my baby but my doctor wants me off them completely but says that there hasn't actually been anything to say that fexofenadine causes any harm to baby but he wants me off them just in case and I am dreading it!

People keep Saying to me they reckon being pregnant will help my rash improve! I really hope so!!x

You poor thing. Oral steroid Prednisolone is another way of controlling uriticaria which really works but I'm not sure if you're allowed them during pregnancy.  How many months pregnant are you?

I've had several of those before and they didn't work for me and I am only 4 weeks x
