Spirometry is a test of lung function, used in the diagnosis of conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. Spirometry is a safe and practical procedure; the majority of patients are able to provide acceptable and repeatable results. This allows potentially wide application of testing to improve recognition and diagnosis of COPD , such as for case finding in primary care.
