Hi, So I'm almost 34 weeks pregnant, and since September I've had an issue with my stomach. I've had two phone appointments with my GP and both times was diagnosed with gastritis. Part of me doesn't believe I have this and my mind is telling me its far more sinister. So my symptoms are: Stabbing, burning, scratching pain in stomach, upper left under rib cage (right where stomach is located) On occasion it will be a dull ache that radiates to my left side and back. The area near stomach is sore to touch, feels almost numb but isn't. Feels like I have a cut there but don't. No acid but do burp alot. It's driving me insane. I've been on omeprazole since beginning of October. For the first 3 weeks I didnt change my diet, but the past two weeks I've completely turned it around and cut out fatty, sugar foods and caffeine. The back pain is easing but the stomach discomfort is still there. It goes when I lay down and isn't there in a morning and will return around 4pm in afternoon. I also get a tingling in same area under skin. Like if you lean on a nerve. I felt round my left rib and can feel little lumps ( may of always been there and I do have costochondritis) Anyone experienced similar? Doctor can't do much till I've had baby.
it sounds exactly like gastritis. I get gastritis off and on especially when I have high anxiety. I’ve had it since 2017 which was the first time. Gastritis can definitely radiate to your back it’s a terrible feeling. Omeprazole didn’t do much for me.
from my experience, it’s important to eat four or five small meals a day rather than three large ones. Don’t go too long without eating because the stomach discomfort will come back when your stomach is empty for too long. Another thing that’s important is to eat an alkaline diet. You can find those foods online. Avoid all acid foods such as pop, red meat, junk food, cheese and most dairy foods , all sugars, fatty foods, etc.sugar is inflammatory which is terrible for the stomach. Also avoid aspirin and ibuprofen. Tylenol is the only thing you can take.
i switch to almond milk unsweetened. It’s not acidic like regular milk. Some foods I use regularly are egg whites which are extremely alkaline, avocado, raisins, green vegetables, so I will make a chicken breast salad with those ingredients and put a little oil in it since oil is neither acid nor alkaline.
i had an endoscopy which confirmed the gastritis. That’s probably what they want to do for you after you have the baby.
theres A very strong connection between the brain and the stomach. So if you have a lot of anxiety, that could be the reason for the gastritis. That’s why I have it on and off. So the more you can lower your anxiety the better. You know how we hear of people who are highly stressed and get ulcers? That’s that brain stomach connection. So a few things that helped me were to change my diet, reduce my anxiety. I got counseling and I listen to meditations on YouTube for anxiety. Also I stopped taking life so seriously and I stopped overthinking things. I tried to do more things that made me happy, smile and laugh. you are going to be OK . for now just take one day at a time and be careful what you eat!
It’s the fact it’s with you got life pretty much! I’m on a group on Facebook and it makes me feel so down. Dealing with this as well as being pregnant is hard. Ive had anxiety since I was 7, and it flares up as I call it. I can be fine for months and months, then all of a sudden I’m back in it again. At beginning of pregnancy I was very stressed, and my appetite changed massively. I was always an okay eater…enjoy my food massively but I always made sure I ate well. Being pregnant threw that all out and all I wanted was fizzy drinks, chocolate, fats. I was gorging on it but certainly wasn’t watching what I was eating. I’m fine in a morning… Stomach doesn’t affect me at all, its afternoon it starts. I can still do things.. Im not bed ridden or out, don’t feel sick with it or get acid. It’s just an annoying feeling. The vibrating, fizzing feeling in my stomach is so frustrating. It’s not going in my back much now and just near my stomach. The feeling in my stomach feels like nerve pain… Like if you lean on your elbow and catch a nerve, it’s the same feeling. I really don’t want to be stuck eating bland boring foods forever. I’ve changed my diet and it has helped. But i can’t stand the thought of not enjoying a nice meal out or a glass of wine.
Hi Katie,
I have the exact same symptoms.
Obviously with the anxiety, my body is going through all sorts of symptoms right now, shaking, body feels so hot, but temp is fine, pins and needles, extreme tiredness,. I constantly worrying its something serious. I keep asking my husband if I’m OK for reassurance. The worst thing is, I Google symptoms, which makes me go into panic. I wished this would just go away.
